Ok Paint Fans!!I’ve been re-skinning Gaetan Belanger’s RDC’s. The RDC 1 and the RDC 3 came out fine.A few months ago Gaetan directed me to his site to download his RDC 2, part of his VIA set.
I noticed that unlike the RDC 1 & 3, this new (to me) RDC 2 was equipped with diaphragms at the front and rear passageways of the unit. I didn’t give it a second thought and filed it away till a later date.Well the date has come, and I completed the re-paints. Pretty much just copying over various elements from the previous RDC ace files and making sure everything was properly aligned, etc, etc. However, when I ran the test…, I discovered that where the NHRR red band crossed the diaphragm, the ‘paint line’ was totally askew!! And of course at both ends of the unit. As the rear is exactly like the front, utilizing the same ace image. An interesting note though…, both ends were askew ‘differently’.As you can see from the ace file..., the red bands are straight.I went back and altered my paint lines in the hopes of ‘fooling’ whatever the problem was…, but that didn’t work. If anything, things got worse. After several attempts, I gave up.I’m guessing it’s a mapping thing, but I haven’t graduated to that level yet, so I don't really know. On Gaetan’s original…, the RDC faces are yellow and the diaphragms are black…, vertical lines, hence no horizontal line problems.Anyway, I’d be curious to hear anyone’s opinion, if they are so inclined.Thanx, Bob
I had the same problem on one of my engines... It looked great for what I built it for, but when others skinned it with Horizontal stripes, it became clear that I'd missed some alignment on the mapping. Gaetan is pretty much the only person who can fix this... you should show it to him.Pete Willard
Thanx Pete. I kinda guessed it was a mapping thing. Yeah, the thing to do is to just send it off to Gaetan, and see what he thinks.Thanx for you input.Bob
No problem Bob , just email me atgbel@valleypass.comadd your tga for i check that , if you don't need diaphragm i can put a alpha channel on this partGaetan
I have the same problem with a GP40-2 I am doing...just wasn't made for stripes. The front rails were mapped to the side of the engine(a strange way of doing things to me but then I am only a humble reskinner)and I get the stripes on the rails, as well as part of my logo. Anyway there is no way to fix it (well, there is but it is beyond my scope of understanging) as the person who created the engine is no longer around. I suppose the intelligent thing to do would be get someone else's GP40-2, but you know, I have just spent too much time on this one and it isn't that noticeable in the game so I am going to live with it. You are going to find this on a lot of engines if you reskin enough. You are lucky that Gaetan is around and is the type of person he is so it can be fixed on yours. Good luck!
