Trinity 5161 Hoppers – image 1

Okay, I'm getting back to repaints after a long haitus. Here is my current project in the works, a pack of (at least) 15 Trinity 5161 grain hoppers. The skins below are not the final product: for one thing, they still need weathering, and at present they all use a generic grey roofwalk/hatch texture.
Please, don't be shy with comments/suggestions...
If you think it sucks, just say so! Jonathan Nikiforovs.

Thanks for the comments. I also hope to get one or two more liveries, such as KCS or KYLE.Bruce Bridges did a great job of balancing detail and performance when he did this model, which makes it a pleasure to repaint and run (much like his earlier 89' autoracks). I'm surprised that very few repaints of this model have appeared in the library, especially considering it's the only freeware Trinity hopper available for MSTS...Jonathan Nikiforovs.

Suck? Are you kidding. Those are great. Very nice job Jon. I just hope you don't overweather them. Some of us like fresh clean paintjobs. But I will take them in any form. Nice work.RangerWestern Maryland Railroad

>work. Although I'm not a fan of the "factory fresh" look, for those who are, I'll try to make a comprimise when I weather them. These cars will look "used", but the weathering will be quite light for the most part, and limited mostly to slight rust stains and watermarks.
Here is an example of the weathering I plan to use for the most of the cars... Though I'm still thinking of tweaking the opacity of the weathering layers.Jonathan Nikiforovs.

JonThey look great - I was wondering if they were a hit on framerates - due to all the detail - but I'm guessing there's lots of alpha channel work to reduce poly's.Thanks in advance!Mark

>They look great - I was wondering if they were a hit on
>framerates - due to all the detail - but I'm guessing
>there's lots of alpha channel work to reduce poly's.You're right, they do make extensive use of alpha channels. The cars themselves only have 530 polys. Like I said, good balance between detail and performance.
BTW, to keep them easy on the framerates, I've decided to keep the textures at 512x512 (this will also help keep the .zip as small as possible, for the sake of dial-up users)>Did CN ever have these? No, but they did have some PS2 hoppers (the car the Trinity 5161 was designed to replace). The Trinity 5161 started production in 1995, and the only grain hoppers CN has bought since then are the NSC variety.>Question, Where are the FBL or DMCX Trinity Hoppers? gotta
>keep the bucket well stocked with modern stuf too ya know ?I've already been thinking of doing something along those lines, but this a pack of "real-life" skins, and I make it a point not to mix real-life and fictional rolling stock in the same .zip, and I also try to concentrate on one project at a time...Jonathan Nikiforovs.
