Can anyone tell me what happened here? I re-skined this engine and somthing happened. It didn't look like this when I had it in the TGAtool. Is this somting that happens or did I do somting wrong? I worked on this locomotive for a few hours, I went back to fix a minor error in the paint job and when I ran it again this occured. I went back into the TGAtool to open up the file and the entire thing looked like that.

What I was refering to are the funny lines on the longhood of my locomotive. when I left the editor it was black with yellow writing. When I started the game it all looked like that. I did however repaint it using the files I had backed up but I lost at least an hour on that. as you can see it looks much better now.

RE: I need Help

Hello,
I’ve had a similar problem creating ACE files. For example, I’ve created a re-skinning template in PSP (with ~10 vector and 2 raster layers each with appropriate masks) but when I tried to export the image as a TGA, it came up garbled in TGATool2. I tried different export settings within PSP but always seemed to get a garbled image (even worse than the previous poster, Darkviper01).
My temporary work around (don’t laugh) was to export a BMP of the main image from PSP and save the mask to disk (a MSK file). Then I loaded the main BMP into TGATool2 and then create a blank Alpha channel. Next I copied the MSK file to a file called “tgatrns2.bmp” and then chose Reload after Edit for the Alpha channel from within TGATool2. Final step was to export an ACE file with transparency. There was another small glitch in this cumbersome process – if I loaded the MSK file into MSPaint and saved it as “tgatrns2.bmp”, it did not work, for it seemed to corrupt the Alpha channel (now it became garbled). To fix this I loaded the MSK file into PictureIt! And saved it to “tgatrns2.bmp” as a gray scale image. A somewhat convoluted workaround, so I’d obviously wanted to get to a point where I could directly export a TGA from PSP to TGATool2.
After reading this thread, I went back and tried exporting as an uncompressed 24-bit TGA file and lo behold it worked. I coulda sworn I had tried that before and it didn’t. Oh well, as long as it seems to work now. I’ve attached the results of using the 24-bit TGA file from PSP (I’m soooo glad the process is back to be only two steps!). BTW, any plans to turn MakeACE into a PSP plug-in, thereby making it a 1-step process?I need Help – image 5I need Help – image 6 The pictures represents a fictional repaint of Justin’s amazing DASH-9 into the CH&D “Spirit of Tippecanoe”.

I’m still not real pleased with my scheme design (like the number placement), and I still don’t care for the flexibility of the layer blend modes in PSP (i.e. I don’t understand how to force them to do what I want yet). I’m gonna continue to play around and who knows it may end up evolving completely differently.Note: The CH&D was a B&O predecessor in western Ohio, and can be traced back to an interurban route (hence the homage with a lightning stripe, or is that strike…). The logo is extracted from a vintage photo of CH&D’s Moraine OH carbarn. And the red scheme is a nod to the old streetcars which were nicknamed “Red Devils” (and which lives on as our local school mascot).I was toying with doing an Erie “winged diamond” DASH9 next, but maybe with the new Monon route, I oughta do a Monon DASH9…>>Wow, I think this is the only guy i've seen so far that came in, hung out for a while >>got the hang, then painted his own stuff, not asking others to do it for him! Cool I wonder how many people are out there lurking (like myself, for most of the last year off and on) trying to figure this re-skinning out. There’s an amazing amount of knowledge here in this forum. Thanks everyone for sharing.

Ooops! Many apologies. I obviously don't have the hang of posting yet. Since the attachements didn't show up in preview mode, I also embedded them. Sorry about the wasted bandwidth...Todd

RE: I need Help

Oops again. Yikes, did I violate etiquette in posting a reskin image without asking permission of the author(s)? I'm tracking down the authors to apologize in any case... Not a good way to get started here. Shoulda stayed a lurker, sigh...Todd

RE: I need Help

Errr, messed up again. Where I said Justin's dash-9 that should've read Jens-Christian (didn't have the readme files at work). Again my apologies to Jens-Christian Baerenz (NALW) and Chris Denbow (TKW)...Does this forum have a Three Strikes law? Gulp... Todd

I've had this problem before, and may be able to help you fix it. What program do you use to create skins? Do you use .tga format?
If so, your color depth may be wrong. I have my PSP7 set to 24 bit color, because the 16 and 32 bit selections did that in TgaTool2. Thanks to the people who walked me through what was wrong, I've been skinning for months now and haven't used MS Paint much at all, because PSP is infinitly better.Bradley Linda
