While we have been told this is "vaporware," I hope the following will quash that rumor once and for all!!I still can't tell you ALL that is going to be in the pak(s)...I do need SOME supprises, but here is a JUST a taste of what can be expected....New cabs, New cars, new sounds, new locomotives.....I said in my last post last night......ANYONE who is a fan of the Chicago commuter scene, or has been around it from the last 30 years will LOVE this! NO stone is being left unturned..or trying to!!!One note, we are woking on ALL of the following models, so these are NOT the final versions in most.....Don't read anything into that EXCEPT makeing them better! This has been a team effort so far! Not going to give away the names, but THANK YOU to all who have helped!A target release date has been discussed IN HOUSE only....don't ask us please...but I will tell you IT IS CLOSE!!! Again.....MERRY CHRISTMAS from all of us at NALW!!EDIT: pics that didn't show up

I just have 1 thing to say about 9920 that engine is sitting in keller, texas in silver CB&Q colors with a BNSF logo on the front and no lettering on the side. The wierd thing is that it is a BNSF engine sitting next to the UP main line. The reason being is that the mayor of keller used to work for the BNSF anyway thats just my 0.02.-MattEdit: P.S. the front had orange and white stripes in a square and an orange searchlight on the top. ATSF GP60M #104 works on the local in Flagstaff, AZ.

RE: Merry Christmas from NALW...Screens of the METRA st

The CNW 503 is called a "Crandall Cab" after Milton H. Crandall, chief of motive power on the CNW. They were built from old UP E8/9 B units. The 502 had a plaque which read "In memory of Milton H. Crandall" after his death. They have alot more "colorful" names for those units too....LOL I LOVED them!LAter1

real Metra and older stuff WILL be on there. Trust me on that!IT might not be what you hear on the newest stuff, but WILL be appropriate for what is on the models. I still need to get a bell sound off a CNW gong style bell. I just don't know who can turn cassette into digital.LAter!

>I still need to get a bell sound off a CNW gong style bell. I just don't know who can turn cassette into digital.Heres How Go to any toy store and get the "Radio DJ" thing that transmits your voice on the air for up to 30 feet. Included is a little cord, like a headset cord, that has a plug in at each end. Put the cassete in a tape player, and plug one end in the earphones jack and the other in the computer's microphone jack.It really works Great work on the Metras! It was worth the wait, even though I was impatient! Thanks!

RE: Merry Christmas from NALW...Screens of the METRA st

I have a bell recorded off a UP-West(CNW) train, from within the cabcar a couple summers ago, converted to digital and all that... PM or e-mail me if interested...
It will require some cleaning as there's background noise(people talking, etc). Then again, it actually might be off one of the newer cabcars(you can hear the pump thing on it) and might not be of help to you... :/I'll be up there(in the Chicago area) this Saturday, will probably do the BNSF and UP-West lines... don't know if I'll bring the tape recorder or not, as I've managed to misplace my audio transfer cable(headphone jack on each end)... guess I could gather some source audio anyway(even tho its low-quality cassette tape audio).

>Think the Amerail cars SUCK....all the personality of a
>cardboard box..... If you want a realistic modern Metra Consist, you will need an Amerail coach. Every Metra train has at least one of them. Now that ALL of the smooth side cars will be gone, Metra will have all stainless steal cars. RI, BNSF, and MILW all will get new cab cars. The refreshment car is a neat touch. They are still used on RI and MILW trains. The cars look awesome by the way!!

RE: Merry Christmas from NALW...Screens of the METRA st

Sorry guys, I WILL NOT add the AMERAIL jap crap! There is still the original fluted side cabs and coaches in service, so they are still U-T-D. The new stuff is NOT "Chicago" to me. Yes, I realize it is, but NOT to a dyed-in-the-wool old timer who grew up with all of the others up to now. The new cars just don't have the same feeling for me.Besides, you fellas need SOMETHING to skin these into!!! LOL
Later!

Looking Excellent NALW. I was directed to this deal from a 2 year old topic the other day, however things happen and schedules get set behind. But Great stuff comes to those who wait. I look forward to this set. And I hope to see you guys at NALW continue to do more stuff like this. I will always support the work of NALW. Hey I have more fun with NALW stuff than with any other stuff really. You guys made the steam engines fun for me, you made awesome Amtrak stuff, and you guys produced top quality locomotives that I enjoy. I hope more people support what you guys do and not bash you to bits like those dang trolls do. I am wondering if this set will have any RI stuff in it?

Looks Wonderful, just like I remember - now, having grown up two blocks from the Milwaukee Road tracks running through my old home town of Bensenville, Illinois, I'll have to figure out how to reskin for my favorite railroad, put one of those yellow E units on the front, and all will be good.Looks great!

I knew the crew at NALW wouldn't let us down,if not an actual Christmas present DL from the site,at least some first class drool bait,if anyone remembers the photo I posted last year of my opening my Sunset Lines book that's how my face looked when I saw the Crandall E.
Great job and Merry Christmas to all at NALWGary S

RE: Merry Christmas from NALW...Screens of the METRA st

Hey-
skins look good but i have a few suggestions-
ont he BNSF style cab car in the first shot-the coupler is huge and I have never seen a cab car with that huge cowcatcher on it. May want to adjust this.
and as for the cabview in the cabcar, fomr the engineers view you cannot see out the other window like you have.
Just a couple ideas to help improve the models.
good job otherwise.Regards

john-dude look at the model then the pic. its clearly too big.
also, the horncould use some work...the models are so nice why not give them a real, nice horn with hollow bells as well? the horn is in my opinion a cricial part of any train so why not treat it as such?-Take care
