Hi, I'm new here . Here's my Merolink #800 repaint of NALW's F40PH, its not quite done, but it's close. I need to add the red front marker lights and maybe redo the side windows, then I'll work on getting NALW's permission to upload. Does anyone know if the roof should be black or purple? Its hard to tell in pictures. Thanks to NALW for the nice loco and to 3dtrains for their color chart.

EDIT: Fixed Errors The 3DTS (3DPM) model is good, but I like the NALW and GB ones better. The 3DTS (3DPM) model has a nice cab, but it is missing the sander caps on the back. I know this must have just been over looked.Metrolink F40PH #800 – image 9Metrolink F40PH #800 – image 10

Sorry , I was incorrect about the Hand Rails, they are black , as shown in the pics above and I have attached pics just to be sure . As for the model , Yeah , I do like NALW's model too but I like how 3dpm has the "Non-Pointed" nose that are prototypical on the F40s I am familiar with .Shane Palus

Ours was patterned off the Amtrak F40, which does have a distinct "point" down the center of the nose, but i always like to know about different variants of the F40! For a locomotive that public just kind of regarded as "routine", there are quite a large number of unique and interesting variations!------ BUZZ

RE: Metrolink F40PH #800

Hey Buzz, do you guys happen to have an MBTA F40 shape with a center roof marker light instead of a bell? It would fit the prototype better than the AMTK 306/309 shape. Thanks . You're right about all the F40 variants, there's alot of them!

SpeedyFarrar,Well, i originally said:
"No, i do not have that variant, sorry. Unfortunately, the bell on the MBTA unit is not able to be alpha'd out either..."But i am editing this message because, as i think about it, now i am not quite sure if i do or not
Could you email at buzzbenz@msn.com? I'd like to see a couple pics of what you are referring to...------ BUZZ

Hi Buzz. In the pics that I have of the Metrolink F40 from when it came through here on the 14th I can tell that it did not have a point as much as the ones you have. The one here for Metrolink is an ex-Amtrak F40 but as far as I saw the nose was not pointed as much as NALW's and was not as flat as 3DPM's model , you can kind of tell from the pic of the front that the nose was pointed , just not at the exact angle/height yours is. I could be wrong and I have a friend who knows alot about the F40's that are being used by Metrolink at the moment so he may know .>> "Non-Pointed" nose that are prototypical on the F40s I am familiar

Shane,I do notice in MSTS that our F40s nose looks "pointier" than it does in 3D Canvas. Don't know if you have messed with the MSTS view settings or not, but the default MSTS camera has kind of a "fish-eye" effect that tends to throw perspectives off.I will double-check the measurements in 3DC though. I'll be doing some more work on the F40s soon, and i try to make her as "dead-on" as possible (the F40 IS my favorite loco after all, so if there is anything wrong i'm gonna want to fix it ).BTW - being an ex-Amtrak unit, then i am like 99% sure i have that variation at least in the works. I won't speculate on when it will ACTUALLY be finished though, as everyone by now probably knows that it usually takes me a LONG time to get anything done ------ BUZZ
