Aug-14-01, 03:36 PM (EST) "Flatcar" Ok, I'm posting this here too...seems my earlier post is being ignored.I think...key there is think I've found an easter egg. Searching through USA1 for something, I ran across the following file:flatcar_USA.sAnyone wanna take a stab at getting this into the game and finding out just what it is? (personally, I think it speaks for itself.)

Aug-15-01, 03:35 AM (EST) 6. "RE: Flatcar - the wheels turn but..." OK, I took a look at it by copying Flatcar_USA.s and Flatcar.ace to a folder in the Trainset folder and modifying a .sd and .wag file from another folder.I was able to build a consist, and it loads, the wheels turn but the bogies are half buried in the roadbed. Another interesting bit. Although it's labeled Flatcar_USA, it has european style bumpers(?).I guess it's possible to edit a decompressed .s file to fix the height above the rails, but I'm not sure what to look for.

Aug-14-01, 07:25 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Flatcar" It's exactly what it appears to be. A flat car, however it appears to have been added for scenery purposes only as it has now wheels. I suspect when they were designing this it was intended to be able to add it for effect, maybee for a train wreck, as there is also a scenic model of a loco.To get it into the game you will have to add it to the route editor's .ref file and then place it with the route editor. Aug-14-01, 09:08 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Flatcar" Actually, it does have wheels and trucks. They show up in the consist editor( The car also has European style end bumpers on it, and no couplers that I saw ). However, when you start MSTS all you see is the flatcar deck sitting on the rails, with just the tops of the wheelset showing, and they appear to be a wider gauge than the track ( so much for it having Rio Grande Southern heritage...)

Aug-14-01, 09:40 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Flatcar" I think it's along the lines of the other "easter eggs" people have found. Stuff intended to be in the game that never really got off the drawing board.I'm gonna play around with the thing and see if I can get it working where there's more than just the deck above the rails.

Aug-15-01, 07:35 AM (EST) 7. "RE: Here's my latest findings" There are some Cupola Cabooses in the scenery above Essex (opposite the Hotel) in several different liveries. Guess those shapes are in the scenery files too. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
