They look great Don! Maybe Bill Hemb can reskin these into his "Canadian collection" since he hasn't had any luck with TA and their permission to use their model.Chris Denbow - Baltimore, MD

i sure will when i get back home with my comp that has msts on it .... that CP cylindrical hopper looks right on for a canadian grain hopper. all i can say is good job on the models and about time a freeware one came out
fallenflags, curious, it looks like those models were done in tsm. if so what's the poly count and are there multiple lod's? the killing problem with cameron lashley's model is they were over 2000 poly hoppers with no LOD's. 70 cars of them (a short grain train by any railroad standards) killed my framerates into the single digits. these look more poly friendly with more aphla channels. do they also have multiple lod's? i will download them regaurdless, but an curious.Cylindrical Hoppers – image 13Hauling America one pixel at a time

RE: Cylindrical Hoppers

Thanks for the kind words. Yea the Poly count is a bit high, and no I didn't use LOD...'cause I don't know how. I'm entirely self taught and still learning how to make TSM behave. I did "alpha" everything I could. I've looked a a few "tutorials" on this but it didn't make a lot of sense to me. If someone can point out some decent instructions on how to use this feature I would surly appreciate it.The CP model is based on the actual CP car #385173 that I found on a siding in Northern California in April of 2002 along with other demention data from other sources.

RE: Cylindrical Hoppers

No offense intended, but I've noticed that the wheels on all 3 cars are distinctly oval/elliptical rather than round. How hard would it be to fix this? Also, if you need help on the LODs, email me at railfan727@yahoo.com.

RE: Cylindrical Hoppers

YES!!!! It's about freakin' TIME somebody did a freeware Canadian grain hopper! Will textures made for the MLT model fit it?Conrail also had a two-bay version of the 3-bay ACF hopper... it was the same length as the 3-bay; the center bay was omitted and it had 4 hatches on the roof instead of 6.

Nice work Don! They look better than a lot of the payware ones I have that came with various routes. Should look nice in the various Alberta cars.GrizzlyCylindrical Hoppers – image 19 Cylindrical Hoppers – image 20

RE: Cylindrical Hoppers

Any chance of a round-hatch version of that CP car for potash service (Indusmin, CN, Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan, etc.)?

Do you have a picture, or is all that is needed is round hatches. How many?Note that the GN 170995 car and SPX 70007 skinning model is based on the GN pot ash cars.DonCylindrical Hoppers – image 21
