New CSX U-Boat Skin Released

Hey Folks,
Hope everyone is gearing up for a happy and safe Father's Day tomorrow! Here is a new CSX skin I just finished. It is a GE U36B patterned after a loco that CSX is currently using as a load test bed at the locomotive shops in Waycross, GA. While the unit is restricted to shop duty, I thought it would be fun to paint, as I like the CSX YN3 (dark future) paint scheme. This unit features some new details that were added to the U36B model and the most detailed textures I have made so far. I hope you like it!Here are a couple screen grabs:

odd unit, what was it used for?

Jake, the loco is used as a test bed for the CSX locomotive shops in Waycross, GA. I understand it is used for load testing. Maybe someone else can go in to more specifics of what load testing consists of.Highball!John D. Peterson

Ahh! I figured it was something like that. I'd assume it is outfitted with different prime movers for the load testing.

Very Nice work ARF!!! Your U-Boats and early GE's simply can not be beat, truly in a class of there own!P.S. you got anymore U boats coming down the pipe?

Thanks for the compliments, guys! I really appreciate it! In answer to Shawn's question, I have a couple more units I am working on trying to finish soon (both have been started for ages).First is the MP15DC: I spent this evening resizing the handrails so that they look more prototypical.
Next is the U18B. I scrapped the long hood and am in the process of completely rebuilding it - this way I can give it more prototypical "roundness" around the edges, something that is missing from my other GEs. Unfortunately, I am not thrilled with the poly smoothing feature of TSM so I am having a hard time getting the hood how I want it. This is one of the reasons I plan on switching to GMAX when these two projects are done.

After the MP15DC and the U18B are done, though, I am going to try and migrate away from TSM - hopefully towards GMAX/3DS Max. Highball!John D. Peterson

Nice! I've commented previously that this little U-Boat is by far the best looking loco in the YN3 scheme! This scheme just seems to fit it well, I think. Great detailing!

Thank you very much! I've been quite impressed with that YN3 scheme since I first saw it (call it the C&O/B&O reminiscence) and this is another fine thing that you've put together on that U-boat motif....looks like I'll be headin' towards the Peterson website yet again to download more stuff. Come to think of it, I've got darn near everything you've got posted there. That SD70M of yours in Norfolk Southern livery was, I believe, my very first non-Microsoft locomotive, for what that's worth. 'preciate it!

John would it be possible to remove the nose headlight and move the air horn to the long hood and change the trucks so i could do a few PC/CR U33Bs like in the picture below?joe

The SCL U36B Power Pack available on the SCL A-Line Route's site (http://www.scl-aline.com) has the U36B with the latest details added. As far as the ones on my site, probably not as I have too many other "irons in the fire" that I need to put out first.Joe, as far as the U33Bs, the Conrail version of the U36Bs I have out would be the closest match (trucks and horn already match) - contact me offline and we can see about the nose lights.Highball!John D.
