Longhairedwizard here with another Mega-pack project underway. This time it's Dekosoft's 86' Autoparts boxcars, but instead of just doing a "Northeastern themed" pack, I'm planning to do as many roadnames as possible spanning from the 1960's to present day as even here in the Northeast (detroit)...one can see western and southern roadnames on those big boxcars. It took me a while, but I came up with some pretty nice composite textures and thought that I would make available some "Blanks" (textures in various comfigurations/colors without the logos, roadnames and numbers) so some of you could reskin you favorite version of these cars if your interested. The Blanks would be available matched to your color of choice in one of 6 configurations:4 door with silver doors
8 door with silver doors
4 door with body colored doors (such as the conrail versions below)
8 door with body colored doors
4 0r 8 door with one color of body, different color of door (such as B&O with blue body and yellow doors)Also, I'm open to any specific requests...just be prepared to supply a reference picture and/or logo gif if it is a less common roadname/version etc....Anyway here some pix of what ive done so far...Here is a "Blank" in a faded BN green (color needs some tweaking though.)

RE: Community Project?......86' boxcar reskins!!!

Well Shawn, when I was still in high school, I worked the raildock of a local injection molding plastics company that made plastic 30 gallon trash cans. 8 trash cans with lids per box. I remember loading 3 or 4 of these 86' monsters. These boxcars usually had 6 or 7 bulkhead doors in them. Bulkhead doors are like moveable walls to section off the boxcar from end to end, they're used to keep;ess than a full load from shifting and falling.
Anyway, At the raildock for the plastic plant, I remember loading 1 of these in 30 minutes 1 time. Loading full of the boxes of trash cans. 9 boxes wide, 3 rows high, with 2 loose laying sideways on top of the 3rd level, these boxcars were only ones that I could stack that high in. I had 2 forklift drivers bringing me 8 boxes at a time as fast as they could. I remember it was fun.
I shoved all the bulkhead doors to 1 end and locked them down, and I loaded this car in 30 minutes. I remember going up to the shipping office after pulling the boxcar ramp and closing the doors, to get the locking tags from Missouri Pacific from the managers, and they looked at me at said there was "No F**king way that I had finished loading that car and wouldn't give me the door tags, So I told them lazy butts to come out to the dock and I'll open the near side door so they could see. It was funny as hell to see 2 50 year old mens' jaws hang open and they're eyes bug out of they're heads and look at me smiling. So, I treated them on the dock the same way they treated me up in the office. I told them that next time I come up to get the door tags I don't want no f**king hassle about it. Well about 15 workers were witness to this and the 2 supervisors gave me a $1.00 an hour raise that day, a day I'll never forget.
Shawn, these boxcars will definately hold alot of boxes or whatever else you would want to ship in them and they are filled to the rafters quite often. Jim

So in other words, these cars were made for high volume/low weight items, correct? Jonathan Nikiforovs.

RE: Community Project?......86' boxcar reskins!!!

I guess so Jon, You could subtract the loaded gross weight from the empty gross weight and see how many tons it would be!! I figure mostly paper, plastic, and wood type items get shipped in these large boxcars.

Thanks Bill! I knew they were around.I have a HO model of a CN 86' boxcar.I 've seen one in GT blue with the CN markings on them also.I see the CN 86 footers quite often at the Chrysler engine plant in Trenton Michigan.I've seen them loaded with engines, headed north to the Sterling heights Chrysler plant.

RE: Community Project?......86' boxcar reskins!!!

Tim,you probably wouldn't see any CN 86 footers on your side of the border, since they are used mainly for autoparts here in the "Motor capital of the world"(Detroit)
