Hello everyone,Is anyone working on a Norfolk & Western caboose reskin???If so, I could really use one, preferably wide vision, but bay window or standard cupola would be OK also.I'd cook one up, but I'm much better with the activity editor than I ever was at any kind of graphics or re-skinning.I've got some activity ideas where one would be very handy. If you have one, or are working on one please e-mail it to me at TJAV8R@AOL.COM.Thanks in advance
Tim

RE: Looking for N&W Caboose

I am not making any guarantees, but I will try making either a CF, CG or C3 class cabin if I get time. Unless someone beats me to it. Have a couple of other things I am working on, not to mention using the last 2 weeks of the month for moving (east to west coast) so it might be several weeks. Presently I am working on a Southern X2882 seriers caboose, so first I need to see how this will turn out. On a good note, I should have some N&W 2-bay hoppers to release soon. They are going through beta testing now and I hope to get them uploaded before doing the moving thing!Mykel

Tim,By "wide-vision", do you mean these?:Looking for N&W Caboose – image 3Just because that's the closest to an N&W "wide-vis" as I could find (as opposed to a normal wide-vis that extends out past the caboose sides). If so, I'll see what I can do for you, and I'll see about doing a bay-window as well, since I have some photos. I'm not making any promises or release date yet, but give me a few days to see what I can come up with. Chris Denbow - Baltimore, MD

Okay, when I finish my RF&P cabeese, I'll do a couple different N&W cabeese, a C31P, a C32P and a C6P. I should have them done sometime this week, since I'm almost done my RF&P cabeese, and can start on the NW stuff tonight.Chris Denbow - Baltimore, MD

RE: Looking for N&W Caboose

Chris,
You don't have any or know where to find good diagrams for the braking system or the underside a caboose do you? Unfortunately the plans I have don't really detail the undersides of the caboose. Thanks!Mykel

No, sorry Mykel. I use Larry Goss' caboose models for my reskins, and his models don't have the brake system modeled, so I never have to worry about it.Chris Denbow - Baltimore, MD

Mykel
Pick up the current(June 03 IIRC) Railroad Model Craftsman they've got plans for a caboose in there that show the underside rigging(I picked it up myself just for general generic caboose dimensions) but if you're building a 3D hack all you really need is the main brake tank as that's all that's really visible.Gary S

Tim,I looked there and at George Elwood's site, and only found the regular cupola International-style (C31P and C32P classes), so I'll just do one of each, and the C6P bay-window too, for some variety. Chris Denbow - Baltimore, MD

>Great Chris. Is there any chance of one in NS? Sure Kev, I can do an NS one also. I found a couple shots of C31 class #555553 with the NS logo on it, and can do one of the paint-outs and stenciled jobbies too. Now, if I can just figure out why I can't get into the ftp site to upload anything, I'll be alright.Chris Denbow - Baltimore, MD

Thanks a lot. The only one near to what I need for activities is a southern one that I was going to have to use on all trains. This is greatly appriciated.Kevin Arceneaux

No, I don't think so. N&W was always a standard coupola road. The bay window cabooses were received in the merger with the Wabash-NKP-AC&Y back in 1964.Here on the Winston-Salem district, we have a local train, V78, that runs with ex-N&W caboose #518600 every day. Cabooses are also used on MOW trains here and usually carry NS initials with a painted out NW logo. I can provide photos of all of the above if you'd like.

I have a bunch of photos of the NS paint-outs and restencils Jake, as well as a cool shot of NS 555002, where they painted over the "W" in NW and replaced it with an "S". Chris Denbow - Baltimore, MD
