... I came across with these cars at Olympia. The train halted in front of the depot long enough for me to get these shots...While Railfanning the Bucket – image 1While Railfanning the Bucket – image 2While Railfanning the Bucket – image 3
Later on I caught this one going through Skerritt IA on eastbound BNSF detour. So as you can see, the First of May Holiday was spent working on/for the FBL. Upload on it's way...

RE: While Railfanning the Bucket...

That was actually very easy with Paint Shop Pro 7. I'm not an expert with MSTS weathering, but I like to try out different techniques.First I created a new raster layer, and then outlined the hopper sides with the selection tool. Then I just airbrushed a mixture of light-grey and some blue (to represent clay).Remember this airbrushing goes on to the "layer" that is on top of the actual painting. The texture itself is not harmed. Next thing I did was to add Gaussian Blur at a factor of about three, until it looked nice. When I was all done, I merged the weathering layer to the background image and exported it with TgaTool2.The letters were made by first typing in the text, and then, using selection tool I outlined the text and applied Smooth. Immediately after that I applied Sharpen (twice) tool to the same area, so the text became rough and had a worn look.

LAST EDITED ON May-03-03 AT 10:04 PM (EDT)

you did a really good job. The first shot had me thinking it was real as it loaded.I love the randomness of the painting, and had I PSP 7, I might use your techniques to redo my CNW SW 1500 that's currently in the library.Edit to add following:Oh, one thing you might consider doing. Several times, I've seen cars that were weathered and rusted as those in your pictures, but had a few small bright spots on their bodies. Normally, these spots were small squares, and matched the original colour pretty well. These come from patches of holes, or renumbering. I adds some character to put these on the older cars (let's say take a 40ft box, weather it heavilly, and then put a shiny patch over where it was renumbered) but they shouldn't be used in a high ammount. One or two per car MAX. Try that out some time, you'll find it looks really nice

Yes, I know what are you talking about. I usually have added such a bright spot around the reporting marks (RR initials & number) when I designate the car as a one that has been sold and renumbered. No I decided to leave these out, as these cars have supposedly fairly new paintjob done, but have seen a lot of dirty service I made one with a different color bright spot on one of the FBL boxcars.
