Dadbill in association with Diesels West brings you the Chesapeake and Ohio Branch Line 2 diesel! Forerunner of the mighty General Purpose 7, the BL2 is considered by many a 'transition' unit between the cab locomotive and the hood locomotive. A test bed of sorts, and much of what was learned from the BL2 was incorporated into the GP7.While you're waiting for the pictures to load, a little C&O BL2 background...Chesapeake and Ohio being one of the last railroads in America to dieselize, purchased the most BL2s of any railroad, having a fleet of fourteen. It, along with other early diesel types were used as a test to see if dieselization would be a profitable and economic venture. The rest is history.C&O used their fleet for both frieght and passenger service almost exclusively in Michigan during their fourteen year history when the entire fleet was traded in to EMD in the summer of 1962 for new GP30s that would be delivered that fall, which ushered in Chesapeake and Ohio's mega-orders of second generation diesels during the sixties. Thanks again to Diesels West for bringing one of my favorite diesels to life!( I call this first picture "Okay dadbill, if you get out of the way we can finish this job!" )

Creepy. I just found out about these things existing yesterday when looking for something on either the C-Liner or the Baldwin diesels. I thought they were kind of odd-looking, and now, darn you Dadbill, you've made it in one of my "preferred 'road" liveries, and of course I'll have to go and get it. Do you know how much C&O stuff I'm going to have to get because of your diligent work? Thanks for all the things you create.

RE: Dadbill Posts Again!

ssw96: Yes this is where the windows are on a BL2: http://paintshop.railfan.net/images/lytle/bl2.htmlI made a passenger cabin view inside the cab, but when I started running the engine on a train, I realized I couldn't get back to the caboose passenger view.
So here's what I did, an add-on file for all three engines which will provide both views (loco cab or caboose), via batch file.

Check the FL the first BL from Diesel West was the RI maroon with pinstripes(you'll need the horn patch loaded the next day) but the red & black could look nice as well of course Monon's black & gold or C&EI's blue & orange work nice too.Gary S

And along with permission from dieselswest I'm in the process of reskinning the BL-2 into several varieties of Bangor & Aroostook from the original grey and blue to the tri-color and the grey and blue dedicated to "The American Railfan". Probably a few weeks off.Dwight.........

RE: Dadbill Posts Again!

The BL unit is its own design not a modification The BL1 and BL2 cabs were a takeoff of the F series cab. If you notice the cab of a BL is over the rear axle of the front truck while the F cab is over the front axle. I happan to have broadside photos of both F's and BL's and they were there own creature The BL cab is set back much further on the carbody to make room for the front porch and hood. The F series used the carbody to help strengthen the frame. This was attempted with the BL series but the modifications required proved to be too costly to manufacture.

RE: Dadbill Posts Again!

I got out of the repainting business last year, I don't feel I have the talents to repaint and make it look real the way some of the more talented artists here do.
What I do is 'repastes'. I either take pictures (camera or scanned) and fit them onto the model, then fill in and add from there. I personally feel this gives the models a real, authentic look. Some people agree.
If you have pictures (camera or scanned) of the front and side, or even a model you can scan, send me a message to my inbox here and I'll see if I can set something up.

RE: Dadbill Posts Again!

If I was able to take pictures of it, I would go this weekend, but it is currently at the B&O Railroad Museum. Even though I am a member, I can't go because half of the roof of the museum's roundhouse collapsed on February 17th!mrWM734
