There are some excellent pieces of Motive Power from the old Milwaukee Road out there. I just installed the BiPolar, which is running in tow behind a diesel at the moment because the route I am working on is not electrified.By summer, I plan to start on a 4-part series, eventually to include all four electrified subdivisions of the Rocky Mtn. Division. Some folks are already working on this, but the only one that is published, uses X-tracks and I prefer to keep mine generic. I will also be including the NP from Logan west to St.Regis, and the Wallace Branch from St.Regis to Wallace since the whole area is pretty compact, and total length is about 110 miles in all 4 subdivisions. There are many Milwaukee Road freight cars out there also - but as you know the Milwaukee's passenger equipment was quite unique. I challenge someone with much more decorative skill than I to come up with a complete trainset of the Olympian Hiawatha, and also someone to come up with a BoxCab and a Little Joe.The NP of course was not electrified, so I will just not install gantries on it's route, and one can turn off the overhead wire if running a train on that route.J. H. Sullivan, P.E. retired from CSX - who never got to ride the real Milwaukee Road, lines west, but want to ride it vicariously.
However, I did ride the Hiawatha RT from Chicago to Milwaukee - fastest I ever have been on a regular train.

You're Quite in luck! V1perfan (Brian) is getting very close to beta on a complete 1948 Olympian Hiawatha. I'm uploading (soon, I hope- Kelley just sent the file back for the lights,) a repaint of J-C's "Arden" into Milwaukee's "Milwaukee" business car. Getting broadband Thurs. so will upload then.EDIT: repeat slowly after me... period, period, comma, apostrophe.

I slowed down, again and reread your message! WOW! Rocky Mtn. Division! Don't suppose I could twist your arm into the Trans Missouri from Mobridge, SD west? That's my grandfather's home turf.I could go for a boxcab in all 6000 varieties MILW had them in!agreed on the uniqueness... Look at the A's and F7 steamers. the two variations of 1935 Beaver tail observation, the finned 1938 version, Skytops, doodlebugs, steamer, SDL's, I can go on!I'd be willing to bet you're gonna have a happy Kelley and Todd!

RE: Milwaukee Road Passenger Cars?

I chose to do the RMD because I had already seen comments about the TMD being a work in progress. Also, I am tunnel and bridge freak. Ron Picardi got me going on bridges, and now, if I have photograph, sketch, or whatever, or just a mind's eye picture, I can build it in TRainSim Modeler. There was a typo in my first post. The RMD is a total of about 440 miles, and the NP more or less parallels it all the way to St.Regis, and then a branchline follows it - and had rights on it from there to Taft. (T/R as far as Haugan). Since the seperation of the two railroads was at most 5 miles over most of the route, a little more between Logan & the Milw, it just makes sense to me to include both. The only fly in the ointment (or having 3 indoor cats, I should say flea in the fur) is that if any part of a route is electrified, it must all be.I eagerly await the trainset of the Olympian HI. I hope someone will also do the full length dome and the skytop lounge. A friendly conductor allowed me to enter this sanctum sanctorium on the return leg from Milwaukee to Chicago for a few minutes (I could only, as a student, afford a coach ticket) and I took a few seconds of 8mm which amaze me to this day to watch. As we approached Rondout, moving very fast (over 100 mph I found out), a roadmaster seated himself at the lounge table where I was, and the waiter brought a glass, a saucer, and pitcher of water. He filled the glass to the brim, and each time any spilled, the roadmaster noted the location. Would that Amtrak could get their hosts to maintain their track as well today.J. H. Sullivan

RE: Milwaukee Road Passenger Cars?

heheheRondout was the famous location of the "100 MPH speed restriction" over the EJ&E diamonds.I run down the C&M sub in freight service and I must say the high speed capability of that route is obvious. No curves tighter than 1 degree and minimal grades for the most part.Kinda hard to visualize cruising through Deerfield at 107 plus while plodding along at 60 on an expediter though.
