please pardon the crudity of the image but this is the best i can do with photoshop. I normally work with paintshop but you get the general idea of what i have in mind here. the blue-grey color represents metallic silver like on SF units. the orange is rio grande gold, red is a darkend version of the color used on the Texas flag. I did not do a nose logo because it would be too complex for me to make in photoshop and honestly, i do not quite know what the nose logo will wholly look like, so i left it out. Please tell me what you all think of this concept, again plese excuse the crudity as paintshop pro 6 and my machine were not available to do this on.A new Texas Western f-unit passenger livery concept – image 1A new Texas Western f-unit passenger livery concept – image 2Hauling America one pixel at a time

better, but why cover the portholes and why but the name on the bottom? It would fit between the portholes and would not get covered in mud and dirt from being on the bottom third. But I would still not want to dl it, all the other engines would make fun of it, calling it an ugly and it's urge to chase sheep.Kevin Arceneaux

RE: A new Texas Western f-unit passenger livery concept

well the reason halfs of the portholes got covered up was to block in the general color pattern. the engine is an f3, and the chicken wire grills were red on the original image and there was too much detail in the image to omit using photoshop ( i am not good with it ) and it was mostly for concept purposes to see the general color scheme of the locomotive. As far as the name goes, that is where a large majority or the railroads put there names, it was pattern after a mix of kcs, mosty WP and santa fe. It seems to be more prototypical than the past ones and matches liveries of railroads in the south. when i get my computer back up and running again, i will paint it in msts, by then it should have a nose logo as well.btw i ain't an aggie, i'm a red raider, and we don't chase sheep up here! if it was louisiana western i assume there would be no grievences? oh well, you can't win em all ya know A new Texas Western f-unit passenger livery concept – image 13Hauling America one pixel at a time

RE: A new Texas Western f-unit passenger livery concept

Bill:Developing a freelanced scheme is challenging. If you're wanting to emulate typical practice of the 50's schemes, then a few suggestions:* Consider bringing the silver stripes around the nose to form a "bow wave". Bow waves were quite common in 1st generation F paint schemes.* Understand that a nose logo of some type was typical as well. * May want to rethink your color selections. Perhaps use color books of railroads that ran during the era and in the region you're modeling to get some ideas of the types of color combinations that were commonly used in your locale. Emulate what they did with a mix/match/modified approach. The name is typically placed, especially for a full chicken wire F3. As a freelancer in HO scale, I've learned that I was better off trying to capture a scheme that looked common and not overly distinctive. Unusual colors and/or paint lines on a freelanced model often result in the viewer failing to connect it with a "real" looking scheme. When you hit a combination that pleases you, then it's very rewarding to have created your line's own identity. Good luck and have fun!Andre "Coonskin" Ming
