RE: Font Identification

Hey Mike,I believe you can find the fonts you are looking for at The Keystone Works site. I am not sure as to the URL, but just look in the fonts section. I believe it is called Railroad Roman. Just look at the previews of the fonts, and you should see one close to that. I hope I have helped you in some way, Mike. Good luck on your engine repaint...

RE: Font Identification

Finding a perfect match of computer fonts and fonts used on railroads is a difficult thing. Generally, the fonts we have on a computer are fonts designed for print media. Sign painters, logo makers, and corporations usually worked outside the print media when lettering. Corporations in particular often had a designer come up with something specific for the corporation name. The London Underground is a classic example. As modelers we are usually stuck with creating our own letters to match the prototype or, if we're lucky, find someone who has already done it. I say this not to be SMART but to save you some trouble. I have a zillion fonts on CD and have printed out alphabets of many of them. I have spent inordinate amounts of time trying to match these printouts to real life signage with very little success. You may want to have a look at Benn Coifman's RailFonts website (just search for railfonts). He has a catolog of railroad-specific fonts.Cheers,
Al

RE: Font Identification

I found a close (not perfect) match called "1st Sortie", which I picked up on one of the free font sites (can't remember which). I still wind up tweaking the weight by converting the font to vector and adjusting the body of the type until it resembles what I'm after. Cheers!

RE: Font Identification

I know there a couple numberboard products from some different model railroad decal manufacturer's that look very similar to the photos. While it isn't a font, a little tracing, cutting and editing might give you the exact look you want. I have used a little fontmaker program to make unique fonts.

RE: Font Identification

While we are on this subject, does anyone know of any CB&Q railroad fonts and logos? Thanx!

It might be in his Railroad Heralds Font, but I don't have that one yet. I just have the Modern Heralds Font, and I know it's not in there.Chris Denbow - Baltimore, MD
