A Request – image 2

With the New Year in, and more and more new users join Train-sim.com I started thinking about all the questions some may have about repainting/reskinning locomotives and freight cars. The most common one of course is "How Do I Repaint A Locomotive/Freight Car" This post is to help newcomer's get the stuff needed to repaint a locomotive, any other members that would like to add comments to this, such as how to weather, what "tools" they should use in the program, etc.Lets get started.Required Tools:Paint Shop Pro 7: http://www.jasc.com
Adobe Photoshop: http://www.adobe.com
MSPaint: Is located *if installed* in the Accessories Folder in Windows
TGATool2: http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/index.htm
Coffee, Tea, Pop, Beer *which ever you choose*
PATIENCE....Sadly, there isn't alot of Blank templates to make it easier to repaint locomotives *maybe in some members extra time can do this?* But it takes time and patience to get it done right. Don't give up and try an easy scheme, such as Burlington Northern, Palouse River and Coulee City, Union Pacific to name a few. The more advanced the paint scheme is.. the harder it will be to do it.Current "Blank" LocomotivesDeveloper's Edition EMD GP30 - gp30_dev.zip by Cameron Lashley

Thanks WestSlopeRRfan. Also, one more thing.. if there is anybody willing to reskin some blank templates for locomotives.. that'll be excellent, I believe that is the only real discouraging thing for most novices to the game is that it can be real difficult to repaint something when you can't see what you are repainting.. I have found this out first hand *thus why I am using the Dekosoft locomotives to repaint my equipment*Cya! Any Suggestions are most welcome.

RE: A Request

It is true that many of the templates that you open are very dark and it is often impossible to see the details. What works for me is to use the photo editing tools to lighten that part of the image that is too dark. It is like magic what you can suddenly see.You can put a mask around any portion of the image and then lighten it.Rick

RE: A Request

What do you mean by Blank Templates? If you mean the train is totally white or some other colour(e.g. totally grey, etc...), then one more to add to the list is the Class 153/155 by Ian Jenkins(available in file library).

Generally, 'Blank Template' means the skin is just the necessary details (radiator, doors, etc) with a blank grey or whatever color for the paint.

You can d-load a free evaluation version of Jasc's Paint Shop Pro v.7 or whatever it is at about 30mb or so. It works just as well as Adobe's editor.*~þHÃt*Rat~**~classic american playa~*

RE: A Request

If you're talking about Photoshop, I think its usually found at your local software store for example: Best Buy. (Most big software stores). I'd imagine its only up to $49.99 there mabye less. Its a very easy program to learn I learned it with editing a few digital pictures. Future signature: Long Live the Flying Scotsman.

RE: A Request

You know what would be a good idea. A VIDEO on this stuff.
Maybe a multi phase video that deals with locomotive/car skinning and then maybe how to use the different editors (activity) and so on.
I am sure this would sell very well.

Hey guys after re-reading my own tutorial I decided it's just a tutorial on how to make the paint images for the models and does not explain how to map the textures onto an existing or newly created model....maybe someone can edit it to include this new info thats needed....Rick
