Below is pic of an F7 cab that I have been working on. It's based on Christine Sweetnam's excellent S-Class cab that she did for her S-class repaint of 3dtrains freeware F7.However, and I guess this is the norm in Oz, the Engineman apearently sits on the left side of the cab when driving down under. I took the textures and reversed them all so it would work for us "righties" in the US.I contacted her about releasing it, and she said I should post here and see if there is any interest, and if so to upload it here.So..... any takers? (Yes the controls are fully animated and there is a left and right view, she did a real first class job)

RE: Free F7 Cabview... if anyone is interested that is.

Yes, thats one of the animations. Complete with the engineer saying "OH S***!!!"Joking...I made it a cup-o-joe for the US, it was originally a cup of tea (tea bag and all) with the Victoria V/Line hearald on it.Oh, and I want to make it CRYSTAL CLEAR that the textures are NOT mine. All I did was push a few pixels into submission and do the tech work of assembleing a new CVF file for it.

Wash your mouth out <vbg!>!! That was certainly NOT the herald of the late lamented Victorian Railways or the lesser lamented successor V/Line. It was in fact the logo (herald died with the VR) of the National Rail Corporation, NR, for short. The only saving grace was that the driver showed exquisite taste by using a Twinings "English Breakfast" tea bag.Actually an interesting point for nitpickers: NR didn't come into existence till about 1993, whereas the S class have been around since the 50s. So that cabview could only be accurate for post-1993.All is not lost, however. I have, with Christine's permission and with her supply of a mug-free .ACE, created two Common.cab installers for these fantabulous cabviews, Mug and No-Mug. Of course the driver (not engineer) sits on the correct = left side of the loco. Both cabviews are available at my website below, installing into the Common.Cab folder as AU_SClass and AU_SclassNM (NM for NoMug, of course), respectively.

>It depends on the rail system, but in Victoria the driver is traditionally on the left hand side. This means the driver is on the left hand side in steamers. The driver is also on the left hand side in diesels when the cab is only supposed to be used in one direction. It gets confusing with hood units. Some Victorian hood units are designed for bi-directional running. They are set up so the driver is on the left hand side when the long hood is leading. This means the driver is on the right hand side when the short hood is leading. Other hood units (eg: C class or 3rd series X class) are only designed to be run with the short hood leading. These are set up with the driver on the left hand side when the short hood leads.--Victorian Railfan Web Site:

Talk about Oz. You can drive that one from both sides and down two different tracks at the same time. Those ladies and gents from down under are really talented. All kidding aside, that is beautiful work. I know that you are proud of it.Rick

RE: Free F7 Cabview... if anyone is interested that is.

That's almost as good as the one you sent in your E-mail Christine! ^_^The speedo works in the normal manner, the numbers on the speedo are blurry (and where they were clear, I muddled them up) so you can't really read the numbers. However each point where the number is supposed to be, is an incriment of 10 mph.I think I've got the bugs worked out of it. It seems that the 3D trains freeware eng file relies on an "error" that results from using the GP38 cvf file to get the train brake handle to animate properly.I also made the orange switch the bell, the one next to it the wipers. Christine had only the right (er left) 2 set up as head light switches.I also made the wheel slip indicator flash, as the EMD F7 Engineers Handbook says it does.I want another day to playtest it, then I'll wrap it up in an installer and ship it to the library here.

Well, it's beeing uploaded now... And here's a screen shot of the final product. While I could not do anything about the slots for removing the brake handles (They should be removable in the release position, but in the game they look like they are removable in the full service position, oops) I did rearrange the dash panel to be *almost* prototypical.Have a look...
