RE: pssst. CN Fans - Look What I've Got

This was a very short-lived livery used by Canadian National on passenger trains known as 'Tempo' trains. I don't recall exact details, but it was a service that was offered around the time VIA Rail was created. I believe it was some type of commuter train service around the Toronto area.No matter what, it's one ugly livery!!!Ray

RE: pssst. CN Fans - Look What I've Got

Ray, it was hardly short-lived...As was said, the service was called "Tempo". It was run from Toronto west to Windsor and Sarnia. It featured 5 or 6 of these rebuilt RS-18's, and a batch then-new of 25 lightweight aluminum coaches in several configurations, built by Hawker-Siddley. These cars were later used as the basis for GO Transit's single level cars. The service started in the mid-1960ies (1965?), and was still around by the time VIA was created in the late 1970ies. The engines were retired soon after, although the coaches hung around until the late 1980ies.The cars are still running today even....VIA traded them to the Ski-Train people in exchange for their stainless steel Budd cars. One thing that not many people may know...this was the first passenger equipment in Canada to use electricity to power the on-board anemities, later known as "HEP". The HEP was generated by a dedicated engine and generator located in the extended short hood. The voltage generated: 575V.Dan

RE: pssst. CN Fans - Look What I've Got

Don't worry Rob, the route's coming....As for the engine, nice work. Now, all we need are the coaches done up to match. Any volunteers? As usual, I'll offer my ENG/WAG and painting services...Dan

SWEEEETTT!!! MLT's work is suspect?!?!?
Can't wait to run a Toronto(or closest point) to London tempo commuter/passenger!
Also a mainline freight powered by 3 gp38-2W's!!!Great job on the RS18 kwk100. Sorry don't have color photos of tempo cars but i'll keep my eyes peeled. Also these RS18's were equppid to run eighter way(had controls on each side) so running short hood first was prototypical.

Does anybody know how to paint the safety stripes on the front bit (pilot?), the vertical one right behind the coupler that the uncoupling lever is mounted to? It also looks like the logo has to be moved rearward slightly...kwk100,A Diesel drinking, piston clankin', air pollutin', smoke belchin' ten wheel buggy, from Seattle WA...

RE: pssst. CN Fans - Look What I've Got

Hey Dennis....Is there any way that you could modify the existing engine with a longer short hood, to properly model the Tempo RS-18's?Just curious... Dan
