Quick question.....I want to re-skin a 40 ft reefer. I scanned the image of an HO scale reefer, used TGAtools2 to do the whole export/transfer thingy, and got the thing to work. The question is....
Is it legal for me to take someone elses re-skin, only change the sides of the boxar, and still use the ends, roof, etc. from the other person and upload it to Train-Sim while still giving credit to the others involved in making the boxcar that I originally downloaded to start with?I hope this wasn't confusing.Rich

If you are going to use a part of, what you know to be, someone else's work, then the least you could do is to mention that person in the "readme" file.If you are going to use a significant part of someone else's work, then you should get that person's permission.
I've had people use part of my work, in their re-skins and got no credit at all. On the other hand, people have given me credit for work that I played little, or no, direct role in.
Fortunately both of these extremes are the exception and not the rule.

RE: re-skinning

I understand then. The file I downloaded was a Model by Rick Lamp and lettering by Bradley Linda. So I guess I need to speak to Rick Lamp about using it then.Rich

RE: re-skinning

Rick,That is exactly what I did. Mentioned in the text file that original was by you and the re-skin was by me. Just finished uploading 2 boxcars. Hope I did everything right as far as mentioning the proper people. I think everything is ok. Rich

Is everyone reading this??? This is how it should be done...The fact that it isn't always done that way seems to be why we no longer have Svante doing fine work for us...Give credit where it is due... How hard is that???
