Ok. if you get bored, here are a couple of interesting units to repaint.
Chessie and C&O repaints – image 1
Chessie and C&O repaints – image 2
The first needs a subtitle.."All done with that locomotive paint job, got anything else you need painted?"
I would be willing to do a B30-7 .eng file. I know the U36B is slightly off length, but it would work until a B36-7/B30-7 is done.
Thanks,
Bob

RE: Chessie and C&O repaints.

Super news! I presume your U-boat is based on John Peterson's new model? And what's your estimate as to when both will be ready for upload?

Thanks, db ... I'll look for 'em after the equinox, then. I was going to ask you if C&O ran their U23B's short- or long-hood forward; looks like short-hood from your photo of 2302. There wouldn't have been a low hood on the back end, surely???????

I've got a couple of C&O coal hoppers finished- -am awaiting upload permission. I wish I knew more about Sandpatch before all of us go to tons of trouble making stuff that they may have covered, but I can't get a detailed loco or rolling stock list. Anyone have this info? At any rate, all of this will look good on the Sandpatch and Clinchfield routes! Clayton

Hi Clayton,
I made up a fifties C&O coal hopper but I never heard back from asking permission, so I haven't posted it. Maybe I should try again.. I've always tried to get permission for everything I post, but in certain cirscumstances you just can't get an answer because the person or persons have moved on (i.e. CLW). Then you have the models that simply state in the readme file 'repaint and distribute as long as you include this readme file'.
Sometimes it is a draw as to which way one should go. I prefer to get permission from the original author, but sometimes that never happens.Hi Sooner,
I claim to be no authority when it comes to operations of the C&O. As stated before, I was a boy, and me and my friend used to watch the operations from the hillside during the summer and then go home and try and duplicate it on our Lionel. It was never as complicated as which type of engine where, back in those days you couldn't get diesels in Lionel, and I had a GP35 that was a two by four mounted on a flat car. That was about as High Tech as we got.
My photographic collection was during the years of '67 through '70, so I never got to see many of the second generation diesels I'm working on now. When we saw a shiny new engine, it was 'Wow, a shiny new engine!', not 'that's a U23b C&O is going to use- etc.'

"I prefer to get permission from the original author, but sometimes that never happens."I've gotten permission from every author I've ever asked except for 1, and that was a mistake on my part for the first model I ever repainted. As soon as I realized my mistake, I remedied the problem. Sometimes it takes several weeks to get a reply, but I've always gotten one. These C&O hoppers are done. I've got L&N and Seaboard (+ predecessors) on the way. These are being made to go with the rest of my repaints on the Clinchfield, but I'm sure they'll be happy in other places, too! Who's the original author for your model? Roger Von Ahrens (a guess based on a pic in your signature line)? I've uploaded several repaints of his, he just takes a while to answer. Clayton

RE: Chessie and C&O repaints.

Great news that L&N, Seaboard and predecessors are in the works. I noticed one variation of coal hopper in the Clinchfield Country book that was labeled Family Lines System and L&N reporting marks - been trying to locate a better photo - haven't been successful. I'm using your Clinchfield coal hoppers mostly on the Clinchfield route. If I can ever learn the art of reskinning would love to do some more coal hoppers and ACF hoppers. I seem to be struggling a little in that area. Michael

RE: Chessie and C&O repaints.

I love that GP35 made from a two by four! If that's home-made, you did a great job. I hope you still have it - it would be a priceless keepsake, like the pinewood derby cars my sons and I built for Cub Scouts.Anyhow, I don't mean to put you on the spot with questions. It's just that I always appreciate your recollections and insight, just as I do your repaints.

RE: Chessie and C&O repaints.

Clayton: Yes, Roger's. However this time I emailed Roger, Cliff and Chad to keep all the bases covered. Say Clayton, what is the permission rules when you use a scanned HO model?Sooner: Yeah (LOL) that GP35, my buddy and I spent an afternoon cutting up and glueing and painting wood. Some summer! We made up a couple of bodies and we each only had one flat car! The following year N-Scale came out and I sold the whole thing to a classmate for $15, which along with chore money I used to get my N-scale set. Unfortunately for us, it was just as hard to find Locos and rolling stock in early days of N-Scale, and the prices were usually a month's worth of chores for young teenage boys.
I followed the hobby into the seventies until I was about twenty, then about ten years ago my son pulled some boxes out of the closet and asked what it was, and I got into it all over again.

RE: Chessie and C&O repaints.

Hmm, good question. I've done a couple based on models that others have done. In those cases, I treat them like a picture and get permission from the HO modeller (and the MSTS modeller, of course). I've never used a factory model, so I can't really answer that one for you. Personally, I'd be tempted to scan it and use it without asking questions, but I imagine there are some sorts of rules about that kind of thing. Clayton

RE: Chessie and C&O repaints.

Clayton...Excellent work and welcomed addition to run on the Clinchfield. I'm waiting for Sandpatch to arrive - once it does I will inform of the detailed locos and rolling stock unless someone beats me to it. Again GREAT work! Thanks! Michael
