The technique Tim was referring to is called specular lighting, which until recently had to be built in the model to use. Now there is a utility called "Shape File Manager" (SFM). You can get it here
http://www.railpage.org.au/steam4me/trainsim/tutorials/sfm_faq.html
I used it on my Acela repaint and I think the results are great. You can also do other things like rescale (Which I also did) and shifting objects. It is a very powerful tool for MSTS. Here's a shot of what can be done. Note both the HHP and the Amfleet cars were modified this way.

RE: Shiny Textures

Actually, I did use SFM and put specular lighting on the cars. It didn't show up that much in the pictures though. I think that was because I didn't have the Specular Lighting box checked in the options menu. Here's what it looks like with specular lighting.Shiny Textures – image 9Shiny Textures – image 10Shiny Textures – image 11Shiny Textures – image 12Shiny Textures – image 13Shiny Textures – image 14

RE: Shiny Textures

Thomas or Someone else Is shape file Manager works with Internet Explorer 6? I have it and it doesn't work. It gives me the following errors:
Line 49 car 1 wsh = new ActiveXObject("Wscript.Shell") ;
file://J:\Jeux\Simulation\Train Simulator\UTILS\sfm.hta
Line 90 car 4 wsh.RegWrite(sPath + "StartDir",currDir,"REG_SZ");
'wsh' is undefined
file://J:\Jeux\Simulation\Train Simulator\UTILS\sfm.hta It seems it cannot create wsh file. Do you have an idea...The_Genesis_Man

RE: Shiny Textures

I have Windows XP and therefore IE6 and don't have that problem. Did you replace the newshape.bnf file in your ffedit directory? Other than that, I don't know what it could be!

Thomas, My newshape.bnf has been modified and working with ffedit. For try I replaced it with the one of Shape File Manager with no changed results. In what directory did you installed SFM? Is it on C: or another? I am wondering if it is because mine is installed on another disk than c: and that it doesn't find wscript.exe on J: If I find why, I will inform everyone.The_Genesis_Man

RE: Shiny Textures

I have mine installed on C: in my train simulator UTILS folder. I looked at the SFM script and it looks like it uses the wsh variable (and wscript.exe) to look for the path of your Train Simulator in the registry. It also looks like it uses Active X to do this. Do you have ActiveX disabled in your security profile in IE? If so that may be the problem.

RE: Shiny Textures

Thomas ActiveX is enabled in the security profile. My computer is not able to create the wsh variable. Hum I think I should uninstall Internet Explorer v6.0...I will return with v 5.5. I could try it again and then reinstall Internet Explorer v6.0. BTW see a screenshot of Genesis SF Version under SF Genesis. Thanks.

RE: Shiny Textures

Hi Chris The Genesis is in final touching. I want to try Shape File Manager for adding Specular enlightning. I am on final texturing and testing phase. I added lighting numbers on front but I don't know if there is one on the real. The last Genesis passing here in St-Hyacinthe is at 20.00 and I didn't see if it is lighting. For installing, is it better an installer or only zip files? I am adding also a picture of the Genesis in the Detail of TSM. There will be:
4 Genesis Via-Rail Québec,
4 Genesis Via Rail Canada
to make Double header consists..
Later, there will be 4 Santa Fe Genesis. See SF Genesis. Hope, after six months of work, release in within a week and go to the next Project... LRC Via Rail and New Via Rail Passenger Cars. SalutationThe_Genesis_Man
