As with The Huron and Eastern, here is another three-in-one.
This time it is the C&O 7071, which served about for twelve years on the Chesapeake and Ohio, was assigned to B&O in the early sixties and relettered 'B&O' in 1968. From there it is unclear what became of the 7071, except that years later it emerged as a Bachmann scale model. The Chessie System C&O 7071 Bachmann created may be fictional, but is included.
So now if you want an additional C&O F, or an additional B&O F, or even a Chessie F, you can have it by simply switching between them using the included batch files.
Enjoy!

Hi, dadbill! These are great - always nice to see your new stuff coming. I followed the discussion about this loco on the original string and it will be interesting if anyone can shed light on the story behind the Bachman model. What I couldn't quite grasp, though, was whether there's evidence that ANY F's had this paint scheme; i.e., is the mystery limited to 7071, or were some definitely done up this way?

Thanks for another unit! The question about F units painted in the Chessie colors. The Chessie System roster lists only Western Maryland Fs, but I'm not certain if any of them were repainted to Chessie colors. The only photo I've seen was WM 7165 still in original WM paint lashed to two Geeps in Chessie colors. Great question!WM F-7A: #7149-7176
WM F-7B: #7135-7148Now if some one would give us an H-8 Allegheny and a BL-2. . .

Now if some one would give us an H-8 Allegheny and a BL-2. . .Hi Guys!Don't hold your breath, even though the H8 claimed its fame alongside the Big Boy and the Challenger series on into the fifties (remember the C&O was one of the last to dieselize), I feel that the C&O has been the 'forgotten' railroad in the sim, even though they were the parent of the Chessie Sysytem and CSX. Aside from my 'stuff' we tend to see more B&O equipment, even the new Sandlot is a B&O route. I have nothing against the B&O, I just never rode it, and the only time I ever saw B&O engines was on visits to the Potomac yard in Alexandria VA.
The C&O rescued the B&O from a hostile takeover in the Mid-sixties from the NYC, which bought up the PRR instead, went bankrupt, and became Conrail in 1970. Thanks, C&O!
My Grandfather worked for the C&O in Clifton Forge VA. This was a major staging yard and shops before going over the Allegheny range, and is presently the headquarters of the C&O Historical Society.
I wish, we could have a route from Alexandria to points west; Staunton, Clifton Forge, Huntington, Cincinnati (Chesapeake to Ohio, HAHA).

Come on, dadbill, that ain't fair! I'm trying to figure out why it would be a surprise for "everyone who downloaded F units;" does that mean your surprise has something to do with projects you've already released? Or that you're promising those who downloaded your F units something brand new they're bound to like?Anyhow, I'll hazard one guess about whatever it is: I'd bet my life it's blue and yellow. Oh, yeah ... and slick, too!

Yes, I've updated all the other F units to match the recent ones with the new details. I'm sure you'll appreciate the difference!
This will include seven A units and three B units.

Thanks, I appreciate the comment!
However, after reading the post "Locomotive reskinning ethics and be accepted here" I want everyone to know I'm not 'fishing for compliments, seem like one with an over inflated ego, or that I'm trying to say 'how cool is this'.
I mostly use this forum to show larger pictures of what I am posting, yes, but also as an exchange of information. It's a two-way street.

Oops! Where are my manners? Forgot to say "thank you" for the upgrades! They're much appreciated, dadbill; though I'm not sure now I want to admit where they're going - as least as soon as my copy of Sandpatch comes in the mail - because I notice you referred to it as "sandlot" - DEFINITELY B&O and not C&O, etc. Was that sarcasm, or just a slip? At least you didn't call it "sandbox!" Seriously, I don't know about most MSTS types, but I do like to think there's some verisimilitude in the game - for instance, David Klemm's IC route lets you set up realistically for IC, ICG, CN - even Wisconsin Central, if I remember my mergers correctly. And I hope I'm right in thinking your ceeanoh and chessie stuff will be at home on the Sandpatch. Like you say, it's downright peculiar how slighted C&O would be without your input, when ... well, it's the C in CSX, isn't it?

RE: C&O 7071 / B&O 7071 / Chessie 7071

"sandlot"
I'm sorry, this was a slip. I imagine it was called the Sandpatch because of the heavy use of the locomotive's sander.
There was 'Big Sandy' in the C&O route I believe was named for the same reason.
Yes, the C in CSX, well, I never got to see the Chessie era. I relocated to California in 1970. So I had to switch over to Southern Pacific and Union Pacific. That's why the majority of the C&O stuff I'm doing is pre-1970. It will sure be nice to have something eastern looking to run these engines on.
I used a ABBA set and started out with 50 full coal cars in Shelby, but I couldn't make it to Ethridge. It started sliding back even with the sander! I've had to drop cars off the consist file one by one to make it up the hill. Now I'm practically down to thirty! Doesn't seem right, I remember these units would be pulling a long train of about 100 cars, but I sure would like to find some actual details about how much an ABBA unit (6000 HP) could actually pull, to see if there's something that needs tweaking?

RE: C&O 7071 / B&O 7071 / Chessie 7071

I've been thinking about your power problem for a day or so and hoping someone smarter than me would reply - but evidentally not (see previous post). A couple of points do occur to me, so here goes. First, I think I've seen some posts indicating that the grades in MSTS Marias Pass are unrealistic; I recall that when I first began to run consists over the route I was surprised at how much power it required at times, and I was using MU'd dash 9's, not '50's cab units. Plus, wouldn't helpers be on hand on any serious real-world grade? Also, I've often wondered how realistic the coal loads are in the game. What the simulator's models look like means little, of course, in terms of their physics, but for what it's worth, real coal cars frequently appear only half-full because their load capacities are reached long before their burden comes flush with the top of the car, while full MSTS coal cars are heaped up like wood chippers. I can't tell whether the cars in your consist are 100- or 50-ton, but I wouldn't be surprised if the F's you saw as a kid had a string of the latter, lighter version in tow. Finally, 6,000 HP sounds pretty stout, but if you think about it, it's just the power equivalent of two SD40's - "high power" units to be sure, but only a pair of them ... maybe not a very realistic power set for a 50- to 100-car coal consist.Might be out to lunch here on all counts - just some thoughts.

Hey Dadbill, what are you using for C&O coal hoppers? I have: US_100T_C&O_Coalcar
US_100T_Chessie C&O_CoalcarBoth are not typical for the 50's-60's era.
PS: THANKS for all the upgrades on the F units!

Hi!
Gimmie a minute to address some of these...
>I myself can't stand CS paint scheme. who wants to drive a train with a kitten on it?
Okay well, the story of the Chessie kitten goes way back to 1933 so without going into a big story I will answer this as 'anyone who is a fan of the C&O or Chessie System'.
For the complete story, cool advertising posters, etc, see "Chessie The Railroad Kitten", by Thomas W. Dixon, Jr. A great book!
Seems I owe you B&O guys a GP9. I was looking through the "Blue Diesels and Black Diamonds" book and I noticed that the 4550 was usually seen with GP9 6425 for pushing duty. Be looking for it in the future.
The physics in the .eng or .wag file might be the answer, but I wonder if the grades in the Sandpatch might be more realistic than the Marias 3.0 that I'm using which was supposed to be more accurate than the than the default Marias. I'm using all the same coal car.
Lastly the coal cars; I got the US_100T_C&O_Coalcar and just made a quickie TGATOOL repaint from a picture I had. I didn't think it was really worthy of posting...
