Hi all, OK, Since I just started skinning, and I don't recall seeing this information, so here goes....On J. Dillworth's original SD40-2, where is the map place for the traction motor blower duct, and on the firemans side on the nose, I keep getting a line I can't get rid of. This model is a re-work of a model I have had for a long time. So if the original maker recognizes it, PLEASSE don't think I am stealing...and PLEASE bear with me!!! I come before you all as a kindred intelect.See below pics! and THANK YOU for the help!!!!Later!!Kelley D. Ellison
If you ever figure that one out Kelley, please let me know.....I never could get rid of that line and I went to a lot of great skinners for help.........seems to be a problem in the original textures.........an all solid engine will skin fine, but anything else forget it............I still have a BAR 40-2 sitting in my computer that I won't upload because of this line............Sorry......Try the other 40-2, I think it is Justin's......... Kelley,I'm not knocking Jason's model, because it is great, but for something that's not a solid scheme, I would go with Justin Cornell's SD40-2. It is pretty easy to skin (I'm doing some CSX SD40-2's with it right now).Clayton Notgrass (yellowdog) had some unresolvable mapping issues with jason's SD40-2 when he was doing it into Clinchfield paint.Just a suggestion,Chris Denbow - Baltimore, Md. The blower duct is mapped on the long hood as seen from a side view is my guess. On the "e" bitmap. Diagonal stripes across this area are a killer, you end up getting distortion , big time! The hood problem may be caused by moving the piece on the bmp. Its happened more than once here ! Hope this helps. These are a couple of pics of Jason Dilworths sd 40-2 that I'm working on now .
I do not know about the blower...but when I was doing the RI SD40-2 #4795.. The fronts of the steps were mapped to the inside corners of the nose. (on the map-> directly under the left-front number board)...however I noticed that when I extended these two regions outward (to the front of the nose) there would start to be traces of red along the top nose of the engine where you are looking at.. so for you it would be in a hidden area mapped to behind the walkways on the nose---some might stick out and be visible though. hope that helps. on this model the colors run from the sides of the nose up to, and on that little side ridge....then only the top is red...a little different from yours where the top nose color runs down.... I know what your going thru....I managed to track this little bugger mapping issue after 2hrs of colored zebra test...make bright colored marks, each a known width (2 pixels)...each the same height, and each a distinct tie-die color...onto the map, then keep a scratch pad w/ you and write down where they appear on the engine....then you go back to your test map and eliminate 2.5 bars over..... joy of painting.Matt
