RE: How to paint for Dummies: Vol. 1

First you need tga tools which is downloadable from the train-sim files. You load up a ace file with that program then save it as a tga file. Then use a paint program like painter or adobe photoshop or whatever and modify the file. You can't change the overall size of the file though. When completed you need mstsMakeAceInterface which is also downloadable from train-sim. On the top of this program you put the modified tga name and in the middle the name of the new ace file when it is created. The bottom is where your make ace file is located. eg. C:\Train Simulator\UTILS\makeace.exeps. This expanation of mine is more for editing an existing equipment piece but I can for example repaint and sd40 or car and copy all the other ace files and s, sd, eng (or wag) and simply rename the s, sd, eng (or wag) and call that equipment another name. Also my trains folder looks somewhat like this but is not nessisary
auto_atsf
auto_bn
auto_conrail
Caboose_cp
dash9_up_8600 (units have engine number for easy indentity
gondola_up_emty (because of visual load or emty)
gondola_up_wireload (becuse of visual)
hopper_cnw
hopper_bnsf
hopper_up
hopper_up_2
sd40_cp_5428 ( units have engine number )
sd40_up_3073
tank_bn
tank_bnft
and so on .....Also for example the tank_bn
has 2 s, sd , wag files in it. One is loaded car and One is emty so you can pick between the 2 and they use the same ace files so it doesn't use much space at all.ttyl rob20
