He's a hero of mine too, Mike! I was especially looking forward to these B&O B units. But on the new A, the new B's and the original A with the updated .ace's, I get missing panels on the whatevers, the underside parts of the loco bodies. Have you run these and experienced the same thing, or do I have some wierd problem unique to my install? I never saw this before in any of dadbill's outstanding F7 repaints.

Hi Sooner!Thank you, thank you, you humble me, Sir!Missing body panels? There are only two texture files for the TA F7...
Can you send a screen shot of what you're seeing? I hope I didn't release a screwup!
You know how to make a screen shot? You hold your breath and go like this:

Yep, my new B&O's have missing panels on the lower portion of the car body, the structure between the trucks - you can see through one way but not the other - hard to describe. Like you say, there's no obvious difference in the .ace files - like one not being there -'cause I went back to look at your original F7 to see if something was missing. But I've never seen anything like it.Actually, I DON'T know how to post screen shots - don't even know how to save them, for that matter. I've read the FAQ on uploading, but there's no info there on how to save the picture from the MSTS game screen.I'm not surprised at that zebra-striped C&O; I could tell it caught your eye.

Hi Sooner!
I don't doubt your problem, it sounds like the video problems I have running it on my laptop. I'm just not getting it- that is, mine look fine- and I don't have a fancy Ge Force video card.Screen shots are easy- Just push the 'print screen' key next to F12 when you're in the game, then when you're done, exit and go to windows Explorer to the Program Files\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator folder and look for files called 'scrgrb.pcx' these are the pictures you took.

Here goes my first try at posting a screen shot; it should show the missing surfaces on the B&O F7.(Guess not; I'm getting "script error").Anyhow, I guess the problem is my download or my system. Thing is, the problem shows up on all four units. Not likely that the skin update for the original F7A would have the same glitch as the three new units.

I've got big problems, looks like; uninstalled your new B&O's and set up your original B&O F7A to try and isolate the problem - same missing panels! Turns out I'm getting the same glitch in ALL TA-based F7's, not just yours; just coincidence that it popped up on your new skins. Sorry for all the trouble.Any suggestions??? I've never seen anything remotely like this before. P.S. Posted the problem to the Train Simulator forum - maybe somebody else has seen it.

RE: B&O F7 posted

Problem solved, apparently; turns out I had "train objects quality" in "advanced display" set to level 2, and moving it up to level 3 restored the missing body panels. I got no response to my post on this, maybe because all thought it too stupid to merit any response. But I could have sworn I'd run TA F7's and repaints before with no problem.Anyway, your B&O power was finally happily at work this a.m. on a coal drag of TA's 50 ton cars in B&O repaint - all bodywork in place. Beautiful! Thanks again, dadbill.

Hi Sooner! Nice to hear it! That's good information! I thought you might be having a video card problem, So I tried it out on my laptop. Now my laptop has a minimum video, and anything with an alpha channel gets cut through. My TA engines (and trees) come across like this:As for the forum, the only thing I can say is it is 'busy' not 'stupid'. I don't think anyone has a stupid question, it's just that most everyone on the forum is Busy! It just depends on how much time anyone has to help someone out. I try to where I can.Oh -PS:
when you upload a Picture, the default is HTML file, remember to select JPEG picture..
I really dislike this 'new' upload system they have now, it puts all the attachments at the bottom of the message and you can't put captions underneath explaining what it is... Sometimes I have to reattach the pictures over and over when I edit my message.. Grrrr!
I also tried your problem, and set my train ojects and texture all the way down, but still didn't get the missing panels.. Do you have a good video card? I got the best I could for PCI slot, since I don't have an AGP slot, which is 32 Meg, and outdated by today's standards.
Just to let you know I'm still trying to help out, and ensure I post the best possible quality and error free files.
I'm so glad you're finally up and running!

Hi, dadbill - I'm using an nVidia Gforce2-MX400 card, advertised as 64MG. So far it's been more than adequate for any application I've needed. I don't know if a defect of some kind could cause what I've had happen here. Even if it would, I don't think changing the game settings would fix it!What's so wierd is I've had absolutely no other graphics problems. What I saw with the F7's is what you show in your bottom picture (a missing transverse body panel can be seen just below the forward porthole) - but no blurring. Nor did I lose the lower headlight overpaint, or have problem with trees, as in the upper picture - which makes me think it's not an alpha channel problem, especially since in the upper picture your panels are in place.Unless you're thoroughly sick of this issue, you might look at Conn McCarthy's response to my MISSING PANELS post on the Train Simulator forum -- he says it's the result of multiple-LOD modelling: moving the train objects quality slider off "3" will drop out the highest-LOD features. But why would transverse body panels on the bottom of the loco have the highest LOD?

Hi Sooner!
Yeah, lotta reading, but no, not totally sick of the subject- it definitely is something I never took into account- I usually paint the body and I don't usually paint that stuff down there. Where are the LODs located? Must be setup in the .s file. I just don't know if there is anything I can do to help. It's been a learning experience for me, I never figured my 32 meg video card would be showing stuff on the lowest setting the nvidia would be missing. My frustration has mostly been the reduction to 32 colors in MSTS and not having the engine not look like what I painted.

RE: B&O F7 posted

'Morning dadbill - As I understand it, based on Conn's post to the other string, the highest-level-LOD parts of any multiple-LOD model will fail to draw in the sim at any distance if the train objects quality slider is set on any level less than 3. The TA F7's were built as multiple-LOD models, with the transverse under-body panels having the highest-level LOD - not because they needed high-resolution display, but because at greater distances they were invisible anyway and they didn't NEED to draw; in other words, they were designed not to draw at distances where they weren't visible. By pure coincidence, your new B&O F7 set was the first multiple-LOD model I happened to run after setting my train objects quality slider to a level less than 3, and the first model I saw with missing pieces - naturally, I took it as a hostile prank on your part. No, just kidding! When nobody else observed the phenomenon, including yourself, I assumed I had major problems somewhere, and was vastly relieved to learn the true cause. If my understanding is correct, it is an intended design characteristic of the model, or any multiple-LOD model, and will occur without regard to the quality of the video card or other aspect of the system. I'm completely unqualified to have an opinion as to where the setup on this is, but I'd bet you're right to suspect the .s file. There's probably a scientific principal here - something like congruence of events does not necessarily imply causal connection. I'm just sorry it consumed so much of your time - but as you say, it has been educational. And I continue to be grateful for these and your other outstanding C&O, B&O and Chessie repaints. With Sandpatch out, I expect there'll be a run on your inventory.

Hi Sooner!
My phone service was out this morning, so I haven't been able to get on til now... Anyway, as far as the video thing goes, I just wanted to nail down that it wasn't something I was unintentionally doing during repaint that was causing this. Yes, the LOD setting is set up in the .s file, I found it using the ffedit utility, however, no one but the original author is allowed to edit the model file. Thanks for all the input and feedback on this matter, now on with the show!
I'm really at a loss as to what 'Sandpatch' is, as I'm only dealing with train-sim and I haven't been looking at other sites.

Hi Ches: You may want to check out the Huron and Eastern if you haven't already, it is a three-in-one engine and one of them is Chessie. I was thinking when putting the final touches on it, you'ld appreciate it.
While researching this B&O story, I came across another historic path that interested me as far as another project. that is the C&O 7071.
Now, the C&O F7 7071 is an interesting one, in that I had this Bachmann N-scale F that was a Chessie System C&O 7071 for years, I found pictures of it in both Tom Dixon's books, The Chesapeake & Ohio in Color, and Early Diesels as high wave C&O. I was unable to find it in any Chessie pictures as Bachmann had depicted. In 'Blue Diesels and Black Diamonds' while researching the 4055, I again found it again, in B&O color/emblem as being assigned to the B&O after the merger. If this is so, and it in fact wasn't scrapped before the Chessie era, then wouldn't it have been Chessie System B&O?
Where did Bachmann get their information, or did they just pick a number for their model that just happened to be 7071? Was it a ficticious design?
I know some Fs were retained, there are some pictures of them as CSX. Whether any were from the C&O, B&O or WM is a mistery.
Anyway, to make a long story short- I'm thinking another three-in-one series like the 6099/Huron & Eastern, It will be the high-wave C&O 7071, the all blue B&O 7071 and the Bachmann Chessie System C&O 7071 and that'll be it unless someone can get me some pix of it as CSX or Chessie.
How about it? Anyone know anybody who might know whatever became of 7071?
Thanks again for the kind words!

I could be wrong but the F7s listed for the Chessie System were 28 units from Western Maryland #7149 - 7176 (Jerry Doyle's Chessie System Diesel Locomotives. None from C&O or B&O.C&O 7071: Sold to Railease, Inc. 1/64; leased to B&O (not relettered); Sold to B&O 1968 (relettered to B&O). Retired in 1974. Traded to EMD and scrapped. - From Chesapeake & Ohio Diesel Locomotives by Carl Shaver & David Gilliland.Looks like Bachmann just liked the number.Ches-C

Okay then, this next series will be:
It will be the high-wave C&O 7071, the all blue B&O 7071 and the Bachmann Chessie System C&O 7071.
I'll make up some CSX Fs in the future...

Hi, dadbill!Sandpatch is a commercial MSTS add-on route developed by Jason Dilworth, Andy Hockin et al. at mapleleaftracks; they're taking orders now and reportedly will ship as soon as the CD's can be burned. It's a B&O/C&O/CXS Allegheney mountain pass route that should provide a great setting for your re-paints. Like you, the mapleleaftracks route builders are well-known for their craftsmanship and attention to historical detail.Geez, I feel like I've just introduced Earnest Borgnine to Ethyl Merman (Martin to Lewis? John to Yoko?)!Seriously, I think many will want to get the route because of your ceanoh line, and vice versa!P.S. I like the sound of those new repaints!

>we C&O lovers can quit pretending the MSTS "northeast corridor" is the old b&o/c&o mainline!I do I do! As a matter of fact, I've been pretentending that Marias is the route into West Virginia I'm more familiar with. I've been adding the scenery items into it to make it look more like it. I used to ride the line from Alexandria to Clifton Forge VA when I was a boy. Clifton forge was a major yard before going over the Alleghenies, and my buddy up there and I both had train layouts and used to go to the hills above the yard and watch their manuvers with binoculars.
My wish is, someday someone could figure out how to hook up all these individual routes together so we can drive all over.
