I've been working on skins to go with the Dekosoft 3D GP38-2 Pro Edition releases. If there is an interest in these I will continue with these skins. Note: these are the skins only, you will need to already own or you will need to acquire the appropriate files from Dekosoft 3D.

RE: Anyone interested in Military skins?

Thanks, these are closely but not exactly based on equipment currently in use by the Army Reserve units that have the railroad mission for the Army. They use some modified GP9's and GP18's. I'm not aware of any GP35's or GP38's but they look very similar to the ones I have pics of.I'm still fine tuning a few things like lights and such. Once they are done I'll upload them to train-sim's library.

RE: Anyone interested in Military skins?

I don't post many messages...so I'm not too involved in the forum...however this is an area I could really get into. I live about 5 minutes from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio and until the mid 90s rail was used to bring coal in to the two power plants on the base. I have several pictures of Air Force 44-ton switchers, various DoD rolling stock, as well as cranes used at the plants. Sadly the rail lines have been torn out in recent years and the military rail power in the area is long gone, I'd love to see it live on through MSTS. By the way, is there a GE 44-tonner out there somewhere? I know one was being worked on. The Air Force skin is fairly simple and I'd be willing to tackle it if there's a model available. I love railroads, and I love the Air Force...I grew up with both, so I'm definitely in to this topic.Chris

RE: Anyone interested in Military skins?

Chris, The GE 44-ton is on our list to produce a skin for. I live in the Columbus area and have seen the AF 44-ton switcher up close while I was at WPAFB on multiple occasions. It used to be parked quite a bit right by the BX on the siding that is there. Was pretty easy just to walk over and take a look. Being a Major at the time it was pretty easy to get those guys to let me climb up and take a look around.Nowadays though I doubt they would let you anywhere close.

RE: Anyone interested in Military skins?

Jim,That's excellent...I can't wait to see the 44-ton switcher. I live in Fairborn. My dad and I used to watch one of them retrieve cars from the siding near the YMCA. They're all long gone though, it's sad. You're right, WPAFB is on very very high security...ID checks 24/7 and random searches of cars...it's really too bad. But, you've gotta do what you've gotta do. I'm in AFROTC now at Purdue, I'm glad to see some military folk on this board...and especially Ohioans. Well enough of that, I cannot wait to see the 44-tonner in AF paint. That will definitely take me back to my childhood. Go Air Force!Chris
