I have the new Santa Fe A-B-B-A from 3dtrains. I came across a couple of re-skins for the 3dtrains B unit which I've tried to set up, but as far as I can tell, these were for a former 3dtrains B-unit version, and they don't take kindly to having the .s file from the new F7B pasted in. I managed to get one of them going, Ron Paludan's Great Northern, by overwriting the .ace files in the 3DT_F7B1_ATSF folder with the re-skin .ace files; and though it runs fine, it still shows up as "3DT_F7B1_ATSF" in the activity editor despite the fact that I've re-named all the files and amended the appropriate lines in the .eng and .sd files to "F7B_GN". Plus I only have one ATSF B unit! So what's up here? Is there any way I can do a straightforward setup on the 3dtrains B unit reskins using the current B unit .s file? Or, in the alternative, any way I can get hold of the original B unit?Anyway, it's 2:30 a.m. and this post sounds like gibberish even to me. But I'd be grateful for any help on this from you re-skinners.

Probably the easiest method (for now) is to create a new folder for the B's and simply rename the GN files to match the old ATSF ones...- or -You could decompress the B unit using the FFEDIT program:1) Rename the F7B1_ATSF.s to F7B1_in.s 2) Run FFEDIT with the following command:ffedit F7B1_in.s /o:F7B1_out.s3) Rename the F7B1_out.s to F7B1_ATSF.s 4) Using Wordpad, edit the *.ACE file entries, replacing ATSF for the appropriate GN filesCheers! Aha! Here's the chief suspect himself, still up at 3:30 a.m. central time! Well, all kidding aside, Marc, you'd be the expert on this, and I'll try your prescription for FFEDIT, though I haven't worked much with that utility. I think that must be the only option. I can't explain this as well as I should, but ... somehow it doesn't work to try and make a new folder. I mean, the name on the folder keeps coming up 3DT_F7B1_ATSF no matter what changes I make in the files. Does that make sense? And that means I can't get a new loco into the game without giving up an old one.
It doesn't matter. The name line in the .eng file actually reads "F7B Great Northern", although the loco is identified as F7B1_ATSF in the editor. Actually, the only way I get the GN reskin to run is to retain the F7B1_ATSF designation (is that right? think so) everywhere else in .eng as well as the names for the .eng, .s and .sd files - i.e., the name line in the .eng file is the ONLY place in the folder where you can find a reference to GN! For some reason, I see I've renamed the re-skin .ace files F7B1a_ATSF.ace etc., too, probably for no good reason. In other words, if you open the folder as I have it, you can't tell it's the re-skin by looking at the file names or inside the .eng file.
Hi Marc,Watch for email......lol..... And I think you can avoid FFEDIT by using the newest version of Route Riter.......I was able to decompress an s file and recompress it very easily from within that program.......Now if I could just understand what the hell all of it means? By the way, I did a similar thing as the first poster did....Had an older version of your F7 unit......and decided after reskinning the old version to use the newer version,(I think I had a good reason, just can't remember right now) I had to change a few items in the ace files, add a couple ace files that were missing from the old to the new and then renamed everything and then changed the engine files, are you with me so far.......confusing but I did it......and then happened to remember to go into the cabview folder and change the necessary file name there.......and it actually worked and worked great........I was more surprised than anyone that it did, actually.......must be learning........however, now that I saw the first post, does that mean that I will have to go into the s file to change the name in there in order for it to work in an activity? I hope I haven't confused you too much.......Had I known about the version two of the F7 I could have saved myself all this headache but I didn't.......and besides, I learned a lot doing this....... Let me know if I will have to do this or not.......Thanks, Marc....... and hope you can help me with the email question too........ Tim The Spur Line http://tahunter.net/thespurline Appalachia RR
Another thing I should say, Hack, is that Ron Paludan deserves many stars in his crown for the huge amount of help he gave me when I was first trying to put his GN overalls on your ATSF baby. He thought it was possible you'd made some changes between the time he re-skinned your earlier version and your War Bonnet release that created the problem. But we could never figure out how to solve it.
