Is it just me or

Is it me or does this conference area seem to be going downhill? Not the posts themselves but the amount of posts. What happened? No one reskinning anymore? No one wanting to share their pics? We are letting the other conferences whiz by us........Come on guys and gals, lets give this conference a boost some......Tell us what you are working on........I'd drag out the pom poms and short skirt but that would certainly put an end to the conference area altogether.......lol!Tim

Well, I'm still working on my first reskin.....having trouble with the stripes that go on the front and back of it but starting to work through it. Hopefully I'll have a pretty good draft of one in a week. There are still a few of us out there that are too interested in product than to be caught up in criticism and junk.Cheers,Jason

Yeah, I know what you mean Jason, but don't worry about any criticism or flames of your work.......to hell with them........if someone criticizes without contructive reasoning then I ignore them anyway......
Stripes can be a bitch.......I know, I hate them, but am sure you will get through them all right......I once put a loco into the game and back into my paint program 48 times just to get the stripes to line up.........You'll get it, just keep plugging away.....Don't be afraid to post a pic everyone........whether you think it is good or not.......there will always be someone who won't like it but more that will........The only one you have to please is yourself anyway.......And if you are having a problem don't be afraid to come on here and ask........Don't worry about the flamers either......they would flame a perfect model just for something to do........Those people are on their way out of here anyway........sooner or later........Tim

Perhaps a Lehigh Valley #321 repaint, or a Delaware & Hudson #7321 repaint from TKW might liven up this forum??!!

Speak of the devil...I just logged in to post an early sneak-peak screenshot of something I'm working on (it's a "what-if" reskin)..Not going as well as I planned, but here it is, the Springfield Terminal Acela HHP-8; from a distance, to hide the embarrassing mess-ups (looks a lot better from a distance, trust me! ):

The main problem I'm having is the mapping won't allow much detail in the skin, and the text on the sides is all hashed together in block form, no matter what I do in the trouble shooter or which graphics setting it's at. And you know them lines on the original Acela HHP? The ones that show grooves and contours and stuff? Gone. Looked like a bunch of raggedly drawn dotted lines all over the train, so I painted over em. At this point, I'm mainly winging it. Once I figure a way around the problem(s), I'll upload it-probably not the cars, an engine's fine enough for now; at least in my view

Hey darkfyre, don't worry about the messups.....you should see some of my earliest attempts........at least you are trying...maybe it's the model you are using.........see if there is another one with all the texture lines still intact........if you are skinning over a reskin sometimes that can be the problem.......or perhaps your paint is too saturated........Keep at it though.........you'll get it I am sure...we all had to start somewhere.........Practice makes perfect.....What I did was keep my first one and started on something totally different......Try something like a boxcar first and work through that.......anyway, good luck with it........I am sure it will be a good lesson for you and you will be knocking em out in no time.......Tim

Well...we can always blame summer. Not too many folks sit at the 'puter all day long and make trains, skins and what not. Except for me of course. I'm still here....making stuff...should be done some time before Thanksgiving. Kip

Part of your problem may be that you are repainting one of the default enigines. I heard the textures on the default trains have some issues which was one of the reason a whole new Acela train was built. It's just one of those Microsoft things. Might be part of the problem you are having with reskinning it.
