The Huron and Eastern 100 started out as Chesapeake and Ohio 6099 in 1956, then as Chessie System 6099.I'm happy to bring you this little piece of living history.
I've been wanting to work on this particular project for some time now. You get all three!
Three paint schemes in one model in true dadbill fashion!
Be looking for it soon.db

LAST EDITED ON Jul-25-02 AT 02:24 PM (EDT)

Thank you, I'm not usually painting lesser known rail lines, it just worked out that way as it was the family line of the C&O 6099 series. The only others I can think of were the Central California Traction and North Coast Railroad. But I mostly work on Chesapeake and Ohio and some Southern Pacific.I usually work by series. I create four engines (on the average), in a series, the C&O GP7s, the F7s, E8s and the GP9s, and sometimes I give the series a name (like Eureka Relics). The Huron and Eastern was a series of three engine in one. The next series I plan will be the GP9s of Santa Clara Yard during the mid nineteen eighties.
See You Then! Here is a sample of some of my recent projects:

RE: Huron and Eastern 100

Hi!My research shows this was an experimental paint scheme used around 1960 to try to make the engine more visible at railroad crossings. A FP7 and a GP9 were also painted like this and then were repainted back into the original C&O colors. What do you think? Would this be one everyone would be interested in seeing? I'll start work on it!
Thanks for the picture!

I can make up a new series- we'll call it-
something catchy- like say-
'C&O Experimental Paint Scheme' haha!
Give me some time and we'll see it in about a month!

RE: Huron and Eastern 100

Your work is among the best in the hobby. What are the chances you might have a matching B unit for that B&O F7, second from the left on row three?

Wow, didn't know anyone was paying attention! Thanks for the feedback and the compliment)!
In answer to your question, Of course, no problem, Does anyone have a picture of one? Would you like it to be B&O or C&O?
I'll let you in on an inside story. I started this whole thing last year when I noticed there was like two B&O files and nothing C&O. I never painted an engine let alone any other MSTS object. I took it upon myself to learn how and start populating my childhood favorite; the C&O.
Since then I've gotten only a few suggestions of what was wanted which took me into different directions which I probably wouldn't have gone on my own, so it's good to get an idea of what people want, especially now, since I've mostly done all the ones I personally would want, and it gives me new ideas of projects to work on.
Thank you again for the kind words, and keep those suggestions coming.

RE: Huron and Eastern 100

For me, the MSTS experience has been an education. I grew up on a farm in Northwestern Oklahoma and used to play on the Frisco tracks by the grain elevators. Never had much real interest in trains, though. Then I spotted MSTS while Christmas Shopping last year, and I got really hooked on it. The crucial role of railroads in American History is hardly obscure, but it never had the meaning it does for me now - and I was 57 this Spring! Seeing the work of great modelers like yourself puts a "face" on the great roads that built the country. It enlivens accounts of men like James Hill and George Westinghouse, true builders of empire and great capitalists who shame the weasels in contemporary boardrooms. I just recently learned that my great-grandfather went off to the Civil War on an Illinois Central flatcar. I wonder if it was the first train he'd ridden in his life. And my father came home from World War II by train across the Pacific Northwest and for the last leg, from Kansas City to Enid, Oklahoma on the Rock Island Rocket; he still remembers that it was a $9.00 upgrade to change to the Rocket in KC.Anyhow, the C&O/B&O/Chessie story is much more meaningful to me because of your work. I wish I could say I had a pic of a B&O F7B, but I'm just starting to build a rail library and to find the available web stuff. E.g., tonight I came across www.memory.loc.gov, which is the Library of Congress railroad map site; really intriguing. Thanks again. Glad we corresponded. I couldn't find an email address in any of your readme's or I'd have hollered sooner.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-27-02 AT 08:37 PM (EDT)

Thanks again, Bud.yeah, This is where to get ahold of me! I explained to Nels (our great bird of the galaxy which makes this all possible) that I don't solicit my email as I unfortunately have suffered the identity crisis from the internet, I've had my mailbox broken into, and had my name played with, been inandated with junk mailings (about 30 a day no lie) and even postal. It's been a real nightmare. This is like my last refuge, so if you need to drop me or anyone else a line or suggestion, just post a "paging Mr XX" for whoever you want to get a hold of. I like to read some of the other postings to give me a break from the 'real' news.
>this might seem greedy on my part; but is there a chance you'll have a b-unit to match the solid blue B&O F7, far right in the gallery on your post?
bud
Bud, I looked back through some of the achieved postings and found this from July 4th, and you know what, The first time I slid right by it! Just for that I'm going to start work on that all-blue B&O b-unit right away!

Chris! You're another guy I wanted to talk to. Thanks for posting the B&O stuff on this string. I also got the answer I was looking for on my question to you about the CSX NALW repaints. Hope to see them soon. And thanks again to you, too, dadbil!

Yes of course, look for B&O 4550, and while we're at it, I'll update the tex files for the 4651 and the C&O 7041.

RE: Huron and Eastern 100

Thanks dadbill. Darn nice of you to fill a "special order"! I think your F7's look pretty spiffy dragging those TA 50-ton coal cars - there's a B&O available, not a C&O that I know of.

RE: Huron and Eastern 100

I thank your's and everyone else's compliments, but in all honesty I would be nowhere if it had not been for the excellent textures by the real artists like Train Artisan, 3D Trains and CLW, NALW and the like. I just color them.

RE: Huron and Eastern 100

While researching this B&O story, I came across another historic path that interested me as far as another project. that is the C&O 7071.
Now, the C&O F7 7071 is an interesting one, in that I had this Bachmann N-scale F that was a Chessie System C&O 7071 for years, I found pictures of it in both Tom Dixon's books, The Chesapeake & Ohio in Color, and Early Diesels as high wave C&O. I was unable to find it in any Chessie pictures as Bachmann had depicted. In 'Blue Diesels and Black Diamonds' while researching the 4055, I again found it in B&O color/emblem as being assigned to the B&O after the merger. If this is so, and it in fact wasn't scrapped before the Chessie era, then wouldn't it have been Chessie System B&O?
I know some Fs were retained, there are some pictures of them as CSX.
Anyway, to make a long story short- I'm thinking another three-in-one series like the 6099/Huron & Esatern, unless someone can get me some pix of it as CSX or Chessie.
