RE: NYS&W E units?

It's doable, but I am going to see if I can find a few more pics.......I hate working with just one pic.........and it would be that model, not sure what is out there for that model but I will see....I have a feeling that TA is coming out with some new models of this engine and might be nice to see one of those first, but I will see what I can do.......I am not promising anything at this point, because when I do it I want it to be right........Hope you understand.......but I will keep you posted.......give me a couple of days to find more pics and the right model.......TimNYS&W E units? – image 5

RE: NYS&W E units?

Hi Keith,Thanks for the site, found a few good pictures on another site last night as well, still don't have a picture of the rear so am not sure if the stripe on the back runs straight across or looks like the front and runs down to a point. If anyone knows please let me know......The problem is that this is an E9 and there are no E9's that I can find to reskin.........I can do it with an E8 I suppose, using JC's very nice model but it will be a lot of work making the necessary changes but if you want I will give it a try with that model........May take a little longer though.......Haven't tried something like that before but am up to the challenge....Will keep you posted.......TimNYS&W E units? – image 6

RE: NYS&W E units?

LAST EDITED ON Jul-23-02 AT 09:54 PM (EDT)

Hi Keith,An update...have begun work.......about 50% completed on the alpha.......maybe a little more.......I did the rear stripes straight across so guess I did them correctly.......Now the main problem is this.......and it is what is going to take me a little longer than normal........I am having to use Jen's E8 model as there are no E9's, at least after searching here and all the other sites I know of, could not find one, unless of course there are some that aren't freeware, in which case I am out of luck anyway.......Anyway, using the E8 means a lot of changes have to be made to the ace files........I may not be able to do all of them, but I will do my best..........so it may not be a 100% accurate model but will be as close as I can get it having to use the E8.........Have already removed the side windows and added some other things, etc. etc........tricky part will be the front and the added lights.......they won't work, but they will be there, I hope, if I can get them correct........give it my best shot........As soon as I have something close I will post it and let you look at it and let everyone tear it apart (comes with the territory) oh well, I will ignore the flames and accept the suggestions.......
Anyway, I love the challenge anyway, so will keep plugging away......at my pace, I should be done by tomorrow......lol.....what else do I have but time? I'm a disabled vet so time is my friend.....one of my few friends........My enemies are these damn pills I have to take everyday.......well, I guess they are my friends too but hate having to be saddled with them.....
Anyway, I am rambling here........You will get your engine....may not be exactly right, but you will get it........
Will keep you posted........

RE: NYS&W E units?

Hi Keith,Obviously you don't know me.....When I start a project, I don't quit.....lol......here it is 8AM, and have been working on it since 1 AM.......No, I never sleep, or rarely....once I start something hate to put it down, especially when it drives me crazy.......well, that said......I have the alpha pretty much done........what a time I had lining up the stripes.......hate stripes, but more problems with lights.......thought I knew how to get rid of the second light but didn't work, fortunately found another loco to download with the proper front end.......well, almost as you will see........everything you see here that I added, I did by hand, I don't cut and paste.....so it may not look the prettiest.......I did the lights by hand but now have a problem.......as you see there is an extra set of lights on the bumper....or whatever it is called and these work, the ones that I created don't of course........Now I have to find someone who can fix the engine file so that they will and I can get rid of the bumper lights......It is doable, I just don't know how myself....Will have to find a light guy........Kelly Ellison is about the best, I am told so I will see if he can do it for me.......Other than that, don't think it came out too bad.......Had quite a time getting the colors right, and still may be off but all the pics I have are kind of dark, or too distant to get a good read......but I think they are pretty close......I noticed that the top in 2400 is more dark than 2402 so used 2402 as my model......and have the top more gray like it is on that one.......Let me know what you think so far......a little tweaking left to do on it and of course the lights and then the b unit, which will be much easier........The only thing I don't like about the unit is that the windows aren't alpha channeled......Don't know why JC did it this way but can't do much about it........doesn't look bad though with the way the windows are done........Anyway here are some pics of it and now I gotta get some sleep.........if I can........lol..........
Let me know what you think........and be honest, won't hurt my feelings much.........well maybe a little.........Oh well.......you put something out here ya gotta expect it..........NYS&W E units? – image 9NYS&W E units? – image 10NYS&W E units? – image 11TimNYS&W E units? – image 12

RE: NYS&W E units?

Hmmm, interesting, I have a pic with the stripes continuing around the back, unless it is the b unit that I am looking at and they are different than the a........? Do you have a shot of it Walter? Makes more sense to me that it is black, but then I have this other pic........If anyone else can confirm or deny that let me know......Thanks!TimNYS&W E units? – image 13

RE: NYS&W E units?

I am just as confuse John, looks like it is striped all around to me......well, I will keep it that way until I see something otherwise.......Am working on the b unit now.....Do you know if these were numbered as the A with a B added or were they numbered the next number in sequence.......My guess would be, based upon having a 2400 and 2402 that the B units would be 2401 and 2403, but not sure.....Now to get someone to help me relocate the lights in the engine file and should be ready in another couple of days......By the way, John, I appreciate your help on this........TimNYS&W E units? – image 15

RE: NYS&W E units?

Tim,
Lookin great, again thank you for everything. Like you said it was tough with a stand in model but maybe when TA comes out with a true E9 (rememeber reading somewhere they were coming out with one) you can take another shot at it. But this is just what i was looking for:) Thanks

RE: NYS&W E units?

Thanks Keith, as long as you are satisfied, so am I........Kinda fun though. Just need to finish up the B unit and see if I can't figure out the lights and it should be ready to go.......Will just need CJ's permission to upload and you will have it..........Will continue to keep you posted..........Thanks for allowing me to do it for you.....It was a challenge that I needed.......despite the lack of sleep, having a great time doing it............Stay tuned...........TimNYS&W E units? – image 16

RE: NYS&W E units?

Just did a bit of research, "New York Susquehanna & Western in Color", P. Tupaczewski, Morning Sun Books, p.91:NYSW's TWO E9(A)s were purchased from a used equipment dealer in 1995 to supplant the road's excursion program. The maroon and gold scheme was selected to match their fleet of excursion cars. No. 2400 is ex-BN #9921 and 2402 is ex-BN #9915; both were formerly used in Chicago commuter service.Apparently NO E9 B-units were purchased by the NYS&W.Mighty nice work, Tim! Thanks from this corner too.John RothNYS&W E units? – image 17

RE: NYS&W E units?

Thank you so much for those kind words John, coming from you that is a very nice compliment......Well, since they didn't have any b units I guess I could stop there or I could finish it up and pretend like they did.......hmmm. I think I will do it anyway.........and number it 2403......what the heck.....gotta have a b unit.......what do you think? I could just keep the b unit for myself.......or do you or Keith want a B unit too? Thanks for taking the time and trouble to help me out on this......I appreciate it tremendously.......Hmmm. who says all we do is flame on here? RE: NYS&W E units?

Hi Keith,Well, Kelley Ellison has the A unit right now fixing the lights for me so hopefully he will get that done soon......that will help tremendously.....and I thank him very much for offering to help....He is one of the best at it so he should get it working right.....Have started on the B unit but it may take a couple of days as I have some other personal things going on for the next day or two.....but will get right back on it as soon as I have a moment to spare.....I don't like leaving things hanging so you should have it by the first of the week depending upon Kelley, of course........I will keep you posted.....John Roth sent me a couple of more pics so that should help as well, and I thank him for those too.....This has turned into a fun project Keith and I am glad I took the ball and ran with it.....Everyone is being very helpful.....and that says more about the community here than ten flames can.....There really is a very good core of helpful people here and it is most appreciated.....
Anyway, gotta get a little work in but will get back to you as soon as I can.....
Take care....

RE: NYS&W E units?

Thanks Keith, and by the way, my error in my last post, I said Kelley and John, I meant Keith and John, had Kelley on my mind since he is doing the light fix........Sorry about that........Actually got some sleep last night.....well six hours, which is all I ever need......
And no problem.........I enjoy doing it anyway........and if you have something else ask away........If I have time I will give it a whirl, if not I will let you know........Do have some other things I need to work on right off but let me know and we will see........As soon as I get the engine files back I will get it uploaded....My email program is down at the moment, which is unusual so may be stuck there.......If Kelley reads this you might want to email me at my other email address at tim@tahunter.net...........Don't know how long my other one might be down......oh well! Will keep you posted.......TimNYS&W E units? – image 26
