Jun-01-02, 11:35 PM (EDT) ""Hustle Muscle" Headache..." Well...I'm just about at the end of my tether...I have been working on the Great Northern SD45 "Hustle Muscle" #400 for re-skin for a week. I'm just about done when I realized the polygons that are laid out on the BMP and TGA files are wacko! I'm getting "unwanted" colors in spots that, to me, don't make sense. For you "skinners" that have done these SD45's, is there a trick to this particular one? I realize that this is trial and error, I can handle that....but you'd think by coloring one "square" you wouldn't get unwanted color spots everywhere else. Driving me nuts. I thought reskinning an F7 was a pain...any helpful hints would be appreciated.
The color seems faded on the real pic, but I have other pics of the same loco and the "orange" and "dark green" is actually close...I hope. Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Try making a transparant grid layer for the whole ace (or just the area you think the trouble is in) letter each square (and color if more than the alphabet are needed, abc-red abc-blue)then load it into the game and look to see what letters or colors end up in your trouble area.

Jun-02-02, 02:33 AM (EDT) 2. "RE: "Hustle Muscle" Headache..." That's a good idea, but I did that by using different colors to see where things end up. It did help on a few items, however in my pic above, you see near the end near the top by the vents, it is suppose to be orange and green all the way forward. But as you can see, I have a orange stripe going down the edge. I gotta get rid of that. I did discover one thing, the orange stripe down the side...if I erase that then the orange on the upper edge disappears. I need that orange stripe down the side. I'm not sure if that needs to be in sections, but I've tried just about everything else. 3 days now I've been trying to figure how these Ace files are set up to paint the actual geometry. Thank goodness for Tylenol. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jun-02-02, 09:41 AM (EDT) 3. "RE: "Hustle Muscle" Headache..." The green strip on the nose is coming from an area on the side of the nose. It's either on the left, or right side (I can't remember which- -haven't worked with this model in a while). At any rate, the pic below shows green lines to point out where it's coming from:
You'll have to paint an orange stripe here to get the nose orange, but the stripe will be mostly covered by the steps leading up into the cab. As for the dynamic break blister, the color for it is mapped to a square place just behind the dynamic break vents. The green box on the pic below shows about where it is:
Because of this, I doubt if you'll get a perfect match to the loco you're skinning, but you might be able to get it a little closer. Welcome to the world of skinning/mapping issues! Stay here long and you'll find more headaches! But, I find that sometimes skinning itself can by "Tylenol". . .Clayton

Basically, this is my "thorn" as of right now. On the "nose" issue where I have an unwanted green spot on the upper radius left side, the right panel actually covers that area not the left. That one threw me for sure. I think I can fix that one once I figure out which part needs changed. Your example pic helped in that regard. I have reskinned many locos' and this one is a little tough, but I'll manage I think...I hope...anyway thank you for your responses and suggestions. FYI, the SD40-2 model has exactly the same "bugs," in case you ever end up doing one of those- -not sure if the road you're modelling had those units, but figured I'd give you a heads up just in case!
