I'm new to MSTS and need a little help with the download and installation for the CWAC CSX #677 & #679. I unzipped with the folder option checked and it apparently didn't work. No instructions were included with the package. I would appreciate any help with instructions for a successful install so I can hook these up to a consist. Thanks again!! Michael

RE: Help with CWAC CSX downloads

Have you looked in the trainset folder using eexplorer? It should be there. It will not show up in MSTS until a consist using the engine is created. Conbuilder is recommended for this.Kevin Arceneaux

RE: Help with CWAC CSX downloads

I do have a consist built. Route control is telling me it's not in the correct folder. Do I need any of the files from the TA folder of the CWAC. Route control is telling me these files should be in the TA folder. Conbuilder is telling me that there is a cabview and sound error, when I click on details for the error, conbuilder gives me a runtime error. So what you are telling me is that I did the proper installation with the unzipping and folder options check and it should do the rest? Sorry to be confused - hope to be a little more proficient as I master MSTS. Thanks again!!!!Michael

RE: Help with CWAC CSX downloads

Look in the CWAC folder in the trainset directory and there is a readme there. This is aliased to the dash9 sound and cabview. Open the eng file in Wordpad and search for sms, these are the sound lines and there are two. You will see "../../dash9/sound/d9eng.sms" and "../../dash9/sound/d9cab.sms" . You need to change the / to \\. I have found this to be a more reliable way to alias sounds. The cabview should be alright.I never install anything by unzipping it straight to the trainset directory. I created one called trainstuff. I save all my Downloads there and unzip into that directory. This way I can look at the files and then when I am satified then I move them to the trainset folder.Kevin Arceneaux

RE: Help with CWAC CSX downloads

Kevin - thanks for the great information. It worked and I'm good to go with the CWAC!!!!!!! I'm learning everyday and appreciate folks like you who take the time to help us novice folks enjoy MSTS. I immediately used them both to pull an 85 car CR coal train on the KHP route. Thanks again! Michael

RE: Help with CWAC CSX downloads

I do the same thing. I even send installer results to a folder, then move later. It is easier to check things out, and fewer error flags.

RE: Help with CWAC CSX downloads

Hi Kev,I have a question that I know you can answer that is why I am posting it for you..You know I am new at this so I have a newbie question......I have a lot of downloaded engines that require me to copy the cab and sound files from another engine.......after awhile these start adding up to a lot of bites.......Now, I know there is a way to create a file, I believe it is a cvf file, to alleviate this problem.....is there anything out there for me to read that will tell my how to create one of these files....or a program that will do it for me? And can I use a different cab and/or sound file than the one the download suggests? Like an updated version of a cab or sound file? I know this probably sounds like a dumb question to a lot of people but I wouldn't be asking if I knew the answer or where to find it.......
Thank you very much........I appreciate any help you can give me.....DCForum Discussion Forum - Help with CWAC CSX downloads – image 1Tim

RE: Help with CWAC CSX downloads

it is easiest to alias to the default, you have only to change 2 lines for the sound and one for the cabview.GP38 Cabview and sounds:To alias to the GP38 cabview you must change the cabview line from:
CabView ( gp38.cvf )
to this:
CabView ( "..\\..\\GP38\\CABVIEW\\gp38.cvf" )To alias the sounds the lines need to be changed to this:
Sound ( "..\\..\\GP38\\SOUND\\gp38cab.sms" )
and
Sound ( "..\\..\\GP38\\SOUND\\gp38eng.sms" )The DASH9 are done the same way:
Cabview
CabView ( "..\\..\\DASH9\\CABVIEW\\DASH9.cvf" )
Sound
Sound ( "..\\..\\DASH9\\SOUND\\D9cab.sms" )
and
Sound ( "..\\..\\DASH9\\SOUND\\D9eng.sms" ) If you have downloaded the NALW sd40 and GP40 sounds follow their instructions but use the \\ instead of what is in the readme
For example ..\\..\\commom.snd\\EMD_SD40\\sd40eng.sms.If you have downloaded the NALW common cabs you can alias to the cvf file in the common cab folder. You just have to make sure your path is right. I have done this. It is easier and doen't take up to much room to copy into the cabview folder of the engine the alias cvf file that comes with the common cabs. I am working on aliasing cabviews to people who have purchased the Dekosoft engines and who still have the 3D SD70.
I have been very successfull with creating a SD70 Cab in the common.cab folder, coping the files into it and aliasing to it. The dekosoft ones are harder because you can see the front hood. I have had limited success doing these. I am trying to alias the CR units to the Deko CR unit and so forth for each different RR. I will keep trying though and figure it all out some day.

RE: Help with CWAC CSX downloads

Conbuilder has an "alias" function with the program.
I've not used it though. All you need to do for your new locomotives is edit 2 lines in the .eng file :
from this ( "gp38eng.sms" )
to This ( "..\\..\\GP38\\sound\\gp38eng.sms" )From this: ( "gp38cab.sms" )
to This : ( "..\\..\\GP38\\sound\\gp38cab.sms" )
