May-29-02, 06:55 AM (EDT) "TA RS-11 short hood" Does anyone know how to get the TA RS-11 to run short hood forward without the gyralight being there? I am still working on my Maine Central RS-11 and they didn't use the gyralight and they ran short hood forward. The TA-nkp-rs11 runs short hood forward but the gyralight is there. I've tried various combinations of eng and sd files to no avail. Thanks

May-29-02, 01:46 PM (EDT) 1. "RE: TA RS-11 short hood" Hi,I would assume that you are reskinning the Lehigh Valley version of the RS11. All you need to do is copy the .s file from the Nickle Plate Road version of the RS-11 into the directory that your new repaint is in. As for the light, if you look at the second repaint file for the RS-11, the one with the fron and rear of the hoods, you will notice in the center of the image, closer to the bottom, about 16 squares all of different color. These squares are on top of the section of the file used to pain the running boards. Paint each one that you don't know about a different color, paint on bright orange, another bright green, etc. Load the engine into the game with the changed repaint file, and look for the lights that you want to remove, and take note of their color. Now go back to the second repaint file and alpha out the square with the new color of the grey lights.Hope this helpsThis is kwk100, and I'm 10-10 on the side

May-29-02, 05:22 PM (EDT) 2. "RE: TA RS-11 short hood" Thanks kwk100,
I'll give that a try. I was wondering if the actual gyralyte housing was in the original nkp 3ds (s) file and I would not be able to "texture" it out.
BTW, maybe you or someone else will know, what file determines weither the engine is long hood or short hood foward? Thanks again

May-29-02, 08:34 PM (EDT) 4. "RE: TA RS-11 short hood" LAST EDITED ON May-29-02 AT 08:34 PM (EDT)Hi,The rotation of the locomotive depends upon the rotation of the locomotive in the 3D modeling program. The Nickel Plate Road and the Lehigh Valley locomotives are actually the same models except the Lehigh Valley model was rotated 180 degrees in the modeling program before it was exported as a .3ds and converted to a .s file... You can't change the rotation of the model without the original .3ds or original model files and rotating the model must be done in a modeling program, as far as I know anyway. This is kwk100, and I'm 10-10 on the side

May-30-02, 07:59 PM (EDT) 5. "RE: TA RS-11 short hood" KWK100,
I tried the "blocks" in RS11_2.ace with different colors and the gyralight housing was still there in it's original color. Is there another location in this ace file that it might be or is the housing itself part of the "s" file and I'm $OL ?. Not sure if it might be arouond one of the lights that are in that file.
I kind of thought that the hood direction is definately in the 3ds file so I am SOL here.Smokewraith,
I looked at your DL&W version, looks great, but I can't find out where to "alpha - out" the housing either.
So I guess I'll start trial-'n-errorDwight....... Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

May-30-02, 08:49 PM (EDT) 6. "RE: TA RS-11 short hood" I'VE GOT IT!!! Here is how to get rid of the TA_NKP_RS11 gyralight. I did it with Adobe Photoshop (probably will work with PSP too)
The file you need is the TGA equivalent of RS11_2.ace.In the center of the 512x512 image you will notice two headlamps to the right, one headlamp to the left and right next to this (on the same horizontal plane) two rectangles.1. The area with the two lamps side by each (together)place a marquee around these two lamps. Select the "alpha" channel (open the eye and use this channel). Now take your paintbrush and carefully paint the headlight(s)out. The paint color says black but it will be translucent red.2. Turn the alpha channel off3. The two rectangles to the left of the single headlight (all by its' lonesome) place a marquee around the RIGHT rectangle. Replace and or fill the greyish color with the color that will be your normal background color. DOn't know if this was necessary but I did it anyways - take no chances. Now turn on and select your Alpha Channel and with the paint brush color in this rectangle.4. Save it as a TGA file - ACE it and off you go.Hey - If I could figure this out on trial-and-error ??? Now to sort through the 80 or so tga/psd files and find the bottle of MacTavish. Now the next item to try.Anyone know how to place the LV horn on the NKP engine?Dwight...... May-30-02, 09:31 PM (EDT) 7. "RE: TA RS-11 short hood" I think that's defined in the different .s files. I didn't notice anything different when I compared the .ace's of either loco.Bill

May-30-02, 09:56 PM (EDT) 8. "RE: TA RS-11 short hood" Well here's an image of my MEC RS-11 (original ta_nkp_rs11) reskinned and the gyralight housing and lamps "alpha'ed" out. This gave me back the pine tree herald which was originally hidden by the gyralight.
Not a typical MEC horn location but I guess it will have to do (for now) Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

May-31-02, 06:32 AM (EDT) 12. "RE: TA RS-11 short hood" Thanks everyone,
As soon as I get TA's "Okie-Dokie" I'll upload it to Train-sim.comStevealex,
Many years ago, growing up in Old Town, I use to see these engines (all two of 'em) hauling pulp between Bangor and Mattawamkeag. Sometimes by themselves, but most of the time mu'ed with a GP-38 or an RS 2/3. Think I'll try 801 in the green w/gold striping next or GP-7 #573Dwight...........
