Apr-05-02, 09:43 AM (EST) "SD9 vs. SD24?" Hello
Is there any real outside significant difference between the bodies an SD9 and an SD24? From what I understand, a lot of SD24's were rebuilt SD9's, so I am assuming that the only difference between them is the Prime Movers, and the HP?I am asking this because I was thinking of painting Justin Cornell's SD9 into FRV SD24's, but I don't know if a guy could repaint an SD9, edit the eng file to reflect SD24 specs, then call it an SD24.P.S. Does anyone know Mr. Cornell's email so I may ask him this as well as permission to do this? Thanks in advance.Frank S. Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-05-02, 12:44 PM (EST) 1. "RE: SD9 vs. SD24?" The basic body is the same, but the grills were different, and the SD24s had tubes on the roof and only one exhaust, turbochrged. There is already a SD24 .eng file in the library under the SD series od V4.1 physics. I think sdphy41.zip is the file name.

It's not under SD24 or sd or 24. What else can I try? Mike Gilmore

Apr-05-02, 08:52 PM (EST) 5. "RE: SD9 vs. SD24?" Thanks, I found it. I used the authors name to find it. Something interesting about the search function on the files section. I was searching under "all files" and it would say "none found". After I found it, I saw it was in the diesel section. I went back to do another search, just for kicks. This time, I searched only in Diesel Locomotives and the file came up. I guess using the "search all files" function, may not be the best thing to do.

Apr-05-02, 04:18 PM (EST) 2. "RE: SD9 vs. SD24?" There are alot of differences between the SD9 and the SD24. These were not rebuilt SD9 but were EMDs first production turbocharged 6 axel units. The SD24 had air tanks moved to the roof right behind the cab and also had a roof line that was different heights. It also had a turbocharger bulge on the firemans side of the engine not too far behind the cab. The dymanic brake blister is different. Check out these photos:

Check here for additional photos of SD24s
http://archive.trainpix.com/BN/EMDORIG/SD24/6253.HTM
http://archive.trainpix.com/BN/EMDORIG/SD24/INDEX.HTMAnd compare them to this SD9 photo and you will see the differences.
Hope these help you out.
