Apr-02-02, 11:28 AM (EST) "Can scenery objects be repainted?" I am wondering if scenery objects can be repainted in the same way as rolling stock. Can you use TGATOOL to create the images for PSP, then use makeace to convert back? I am asking because I want to change the color of some bridges for my route.Cal Rasmussen

Apr-02-02, 12:08 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Can scenery objects be repainted?" LAST EDITED ON Apr-02-02 AT 12:10 PM (EST)Hi,There is a simple answer: yes! This differs in no way from cars and engines.
Rob Staples has repainted several objects.
But the texture files are in the Textures folder and the names are somewhat cryptic.
And remember according to the settings in the .sd file, there can be seperate textures for night and snow.
This is the ESD_Alternative_texture parameter:
0=only in Textures
1=Textures and Textures/Snow
256=Textures and Textures/night
257=Textures and Textures/Night and Textures/SnowI have created Crossreference files for the default objects, so you can find out what textures an object needs.
Here they are:
http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/User_files/3ca9e5d40b94c84e.zip When you intend to upload your repaints, I recommand to rename .s, .sd and .ace files. You have to decompile the .s file for this, change the names of the .ace file in the .s file and compile the .s file. Dick van den Hoven

Many of the vegetation textures have all! I found out the hard way, using a retexture of the JP2autobush3, as a track object (clumps of grass). Looked fine in the ones I did, snow and summer, reverted to the bush in the others.Steve Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Hi,I hope you don't run on XP, because the method I use doesn't seem to work on XP.1. Create a folder Ffedit in the root of the C: disk, may be an other disk too. This not necessary but because you have to navigate in a DOS box, this saves a lot of keying.
2. Copy the contents of the Ffedit subfolder to this new folder.
Full path is:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\Utils\Ffedit
3. Now create a little bat file in the C:\Ffedit folder, you can give it any name, I call it decode.bat
Here is the content:
echo you gave in %1
ffeditc_unicode %1.s /o:%1.s /k
Simply open Notepad.
Copy and paste these two lines in it.
Choose File>Save
In the dialog box, change the Save box to All files
In the Save in box navigate to the C:\Ffedit folder
In the File Name box type decode.bat
And hit the Save button.
4. Now copy the .s file of your choice to C:\Ffedit
5. Open a DOS box, a simple way is:
Start>Run and type in the line after Open: command and hit Enter
6. In the DOS box, navigate to the C:\Ffedit folder
7. In the DOS box, type decode name of the s file WITHOUT the extension .s
8. After a while of thinking, you get a reply that the .s file is converted to a text file.
9. Switch back to the Explorer but leave the DOS box opened (minimized), you need him later on
10. Open the .s file with Wordpad and do a search for Image.
11. You will find two or more lines with names of .ace files. Change them to the new names.
12. Save the .s file
13. Back to your DOS box and give the same decode command, most installations are so that you can repeat a command with the arrow keys.
14. Now you will get a message that the .s file is converted to binary.
15. Close the DOS box and rename eventually the .s file.
When you copy and rename a .s file, you have to copy/rename the .sd file too and afterwards change the .sd files, so it points to the new .s file name.The steps 1, 2 and 3 have to be done once, you can use this work every time again.Good luck,Dick van den Hoven

Apr-13-02, 10:18 AM (EST) 6. "RE: Can scenery objects be repainted?" Thanks, Dick.
I found the answer about 10 minutes after posting this and have successfully used it to repaint a billboard. I will do a screen print of your procedure for my files. Thanks again. I can't believe how much useful information is available in this forum.Message Areas - "Can scenery objects be repainted?" – image 5
