Jul-04-01, 08:46 PM (EST) "Skinning Buildings" A lot of people are having success skinning rolling stock, but has anyone tried skinning a building? Is it even possible to do so with buildings and other static objects in MSTS? I ask because some day I'd like to create a route into downtown Chicago, with recognizable landmarks along the right of way. Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-05-01, 09:30 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Skinning Buildings" I was wondering when someone would ask this question. Because none of the buildings supplied with the game will suffice for some of the buildings I need for the route I'm building, I'm getting ready to begin work on trying to figure out the mapping for some of the default objects. I realize that of course the mappings will be different for almost every object, but I figure that they still hold to the 64 x 64, 128 x 128, 256 x 256, and 512 x 512 size restrictions. I think it should be possible to make a copy of an object's shape file, rename it, put a new texture file with the same name in the texture directory, make a reference to it in the route's .ref file, and have an object that could be used in that route. This is all just a general theory right now, but I plan on trying it out very soon. Maybe someone has already done this, or wants to try it. Good luck! "RE: Skinning Buildings" Unless it's different than FS stuff, you'll need to add one more step.Since it's likely that the call to the texture name(s) is internally coded, you'll have to open the shape file in a hex editor and alter the name called within the program.Hope this helps,Tom
