Mar-09-02, 09:17 PM (EST) " Ultra Clean Hybrid Engine" I saw this engine sitting at the diesel shops in UP's Roseville Yard today. I do not have the talent as of yet to model these. So I figured someone else may like the pics.

I know it is crooked, but I slipped when I took the pic.

Mar-09-02, 09:40 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Ultra Clean Hybrid Engine" Looks like I missed you by a few hours today, I saw that thing and my first impression was WTF is that. When I got closer I recognized it from some pictures I had seen in Trains magazine, although I am still not certain about what kind of loco it is and how it works. I was just getting ready to shoot you an email to see if you'd seen it but it is quite obvious you have. Thanks for posting the pics as I was trying to explain to my father just what it was I had seen. The voice of insanity in a seemingly normal world. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Mar-10-02, 08:25 AM (EST) 4. "RE: Ultra Clean Hybrid Engine" LAST EDITED ON Mar-10-02 AT 08:27 AM (EST)I found this info about this engine.>The Green GoatTM is a hybrid switcher. That means the electric >traction motors on the axles are powered by a large bank of >custom-designed lead acid batteries. The batteries are kept >charged by a small generator driven by a diesel fueled prime >
moverThe locomotive is built on a conventional GP9 frame. Not only has the short hood been chopped, but the long hood as well, giving excellent visibility in all directions. The batteries take up the majority of the space under the long hood, with a small space left over for the prime mover and generator. Since the batteries are heavy, they provide the weight needed to give the locomotive good traction. The Green Goat looks somewhat like a slug or booster unit with a control cab; in fact it's a completely functional 2000 HP switching locomotive. Here is a pic of it.
