Mar-07-02, 09:57 AM (EST) "File renaming" When ever a new piece of rolling stock come out many new skins are done. While this is great, the skinners need to do a couple of things. You do not just put the new skins in and change the directory/folder name and the name in the eng file. You need to at least rename the s, sd and eng file. Use the same name as the directory/folder, either RRname/type or RRname/roadnumber Then go into the eng and sd files and change the names of the s file. When MSTS loads it loads a database and if you have 2 pieces of rolling stack with the same eng, s and sd names, it will confuse MSTS, AE, and conbuilder. Skinners please take a few extra minutes and rename the files.Kevin Arceneaux

While this is a good practice it is by no means required. Conbuilder & AE will recognize the locomotives whether the folder name matches the .eng file name or not. This is demonstrated by the examples of A-B or even A-B-B-A sets. You may not want an ABBA set of locos each in their own separate folder. As long as each .eng file has a unique name and their corresponding .s and .sd file names match you'll have no problem. Of course under this circumstance, the .ace file names referenced, would have to be unique, too.Another thing to check when repainting locos and wagons:
Changing the file names is great but don't forget to change the wagon name in the .wag or .eng file. Keep in mind that .eng files usually have more than one reference to the wagon name. Wagon name should match the the .wag file name. The latest version of Conbuilder (v1.4.7) will catch this error.I've run across this problem a few times and have made the mistake myself. Ken Martello

Mar-07-02, 11:40 AM (EST) 2. "RE: File renaming" I know that Ken, just that I was on a roll and trying to keep things kinda of tidy. Of course there always exeptions for AB sets and such. I forgot to add the wag files to the post, thanks for catching that.Kevin Arceneaux Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
