Feb-19-02, 12:30 PM (EST) "Making square wheels round!" I am repainting the default usfrieght6 high cube. I have completed the work except that the wheels are square. How do I fix this problem? Is this what the alpha channels are used for? I am using tgatools2.Brian LaVelle

Feb-19-02, 03:12 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Making square wheels round!" yes the most likly reason is the loss of the alpha channel. if you save into file formats other than TGA, the alpha channels will be lost. easiest way to fix it is to load up the original texture file and load up your edited one and copy or cut and paste your changes onto the original and make sure you keep it saved as a tga to preserve the alpha channels.

Feb-19-02, 07:06 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Making square wheels round!" I went back and cut and pasted my texture into a fresh copy of us2freight6.ace and that did not help. I did preserve the transparency however. I thought this was a common problem with the default rolling stock that shipped on the CD.Does anyone have any advise?Brian LaVelle

Feb-19-02, 07:13 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Making square wheels round!" I don't know for sure whether it applies to the us2freight6 car, but it could be the same problem that affects the Series 7000 LSE train - unless your train detail levels are cranked up to maximum, it adopts those ingenious square wheels.Hope that helps! Feb-19-02, 09:01 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Making square wheels round!" That is a very good possibility TAFan. I have they settings mostly at 50% across the board but my resources are limited since I am using a PII 300MHz with 64MB of RAM.I went and posted a beta on my website. Someone with better resources (faster system) please check this out for me. Are the wheels round at high settings? Also what are your impressions of the car? I have been repainting engines so this is my first rolling stock item.http://belcommunications.net/msts/skins.phpBrian LaVelle Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-19-02, 11:14 PM (EST) 6. "RE: Making square wheels round!" Hi Brian,I downloaded your box car and yes, your Alpha channel is there!
No problems at all with it.Maybe you are using the wrong options with Makeace. If you don't have TGATool2, get it. TGATool2 is great for trouble-free Makeace conversions.Ken Martello Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-20-02, 09:18 PM (EST) 8. "RE: Making square wheels round!" I am using the latest version of tgatools2 and makeace update#1. After I make my edits, and then use the "Reload after edit" menu pick, I go and "Export" -> "Ace (Alpha)" option and I over write the existing .ace file.Is there something that I am missing? The alpha channel is present but for some reason it is not making those areas transparent. Thanks,
Brian LaVelle

Feb-21-02, 02:14 PM (EST) 9. "RE: Making square wheels round!" I've got the same issue - all the default cars have square wheels - I typically download reskins and put them into a consist to evaluate which to keep (round wheels) and which to throw away.I wonder if it's due to a limitation in our systems - inadequate graphics card, drivers, etc. I'm working on a laptop with more ram than you've got, same processor speed, but can't get high resolution - the highest setting available to me is 640x800x32 (if I remember correctly).Glad you posted the question. Did you ever find out why our default cars have black square wheels? ThanksMark

Feb-21-02, 06:54 PM (EST) 10. "RE: Making square wheels round!" Hello Mark,I am realizing that it is not just the default cars but also the locomotives that I have repainted. I am still trying to figure out why the transparency stuff is not working. Last night I tried many different combos of export options in tgatools2. The ace file contains the alpha channel but it is not being applied as the transparency layer.I have even done searches in this forum. Several other people have posted this problem, but no solution was ever posted. I am going to re-install MSTS tonight and defrag the HD and see if I get any results. If anyone has a solution to this problem please post it.Brian LaVelle

Feb-20-02, 07:38 AM (EST) 7. "RE: Making square wheels round!" Rick... caught your comment here..... I do have TGATool2 but have not yet tried to produce Alpha channels. Is there a useful tutorial out there you would recommend?
