Feb-11-02, 07:46 AM (EST) "Free 3DS format" Microsoft claims there are 3D drafting programs available on the internet that are cheap or EVEN FREE. See microsoft.com/games/trainsim FAQ Editors near bottom.TMS exports to MSTS but does not import or export 3DS3D Canvas LP and Pro exports to MSTS, and imports and exports 3DS.The above are inexpensive, but not free. Is there such a thing as a free program that at least exports in 3DS. It would still take a bit more work to import into MSTS but at least those with limited means might be able to produce some custom items. In trying out TMS I found out that MSPaint that comes with Windows does an adiquate job at producing texture, so at least this is a "free" texture program. Feb-11-02, 04:17 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Free 3DS format" I downloaded every free 3d software I could find, and do believe I found a few that could export/import in .3ds A good place to start looking is www.downloads.com, search for 3d modelling. My biggest problems were 1) Very uninuitive (for me at least), and 2) sure, I could MAKE the textures in paint shop pro, buthow was I supposed to apply them? I couldn't find any clear way of applying textures in those programs. Let me know what you find, I'd still love to do some 3d modelling, if I can do it free. I've found AutoCAD, even an old version, is very effective, and can save in 3ds. I made a full scale GP40 from old EMD drawings in 1994... May be too complex for MSTS, though, but I still have it.
