Feb-07-02, 01:50 PM (EST) "Working with .S files" After reading several postings, I finally figured out how to use ffeditc_unicode.exe to make an .s file readable with wordpad.
Can somebody tell me how to compress these files back into the original format?
One more question - If you leave the .S file in the binary format that Wordpad can read, will MSTS accept it?I'm very new at this MSTS thing, so be patient if this is really a dumb question.Thanx

So you use the same command for both ways. You can let .s file uncompressed, but the game can hamper as the loading time is longer.Dick van den Hoven

Thanks to all! Lew Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

>Lew Hi,
There is no need anymore to decompress .s files of the 6 default routes to find out which .ace files they use.
I have created cross-reference files where you can see it in a glance.
They are in the file library and here:http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/User_files/3c6020554091167c.zip

When I reskinned a station building ( to rename it ), I had to create a new .ACE file for the changes I made, e.g. a new station name sign. I then saved it under the filename newstation.ace.Then I had to decompress the origstation.s file to change the .ACE reference to newstation.ace. I then changed that .s filename to newstation.sIf I had left the original station .ace file the same name I couldn't have used it for additional stations of the same type but of different names. But the .s file had to be changed too.I wanted to used one type, sort of as a route "standard" station.Hmm. I guess that sounds confusing. But the system works. Thanks, y'all.LewPS: To facilitate using FFEDIT, I ceated a working folder in the C:\ root directory, and copied all of the FFEDIT folder to it, so I didn't have to go through all that DOS changing of directories. I just copy the .S file I need to change to this folder. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-10-02, 02:55 AM (EST) 6. "RE: Working with .S files" Hi,Yes, of course for changing the .ace file name you need to decompress and compress. And copying the ffedit folder to the c:\ root, is a good trick, I did it a long time ago. The DOS box is not user friendly Dick van den Hoven
