Feb-07-02, 03:54 PM (EST) 3. "RE: IC boxcars" Its a refigerated boxcar for transportation of bananas. Mega amounts of bananas came up from New Orleans. According to "The History of Illinois Central Railroad" by John F. Stover in the early sixties around 160,000 tons of bananas were carried per year. Although by the early seventies it was just about all gone due to better interstate roads and trucks. I got hold of a colour picture of one, in preservation state I think. I am not happy with the shape file I am using though and may use another that seems to be closer to the prototype. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-07-02, 05:44 PM (EST) 4. "RE: IC boxcars" IF you are familiar with the Biloxi, MS area, there where large machines at the main ship dock the lowered into the ship and loaded them into trains. Most of this moved to trucks in the early 70's and closed sometime in the late eighties.
