Feb-06-02, 02:06 PM (EST) "Programs" In the past week I received Train Simulator Modeler. I'm learning but it appears more will be need to completely build an object for MSTS.
Others here use different programs for example;Paint Shop Pro
Photoshop
iPhoto Plus
TurboCAD
3DCanvas Pro
3DSMAX
others?
I would like some honest input from users of the various programs used to create objects for MSTS.
What is the capacity? In other words what does it do?What are the limitations? What does it not do?How well does it work with MSTS?What are its strengths? What are its weakness? What restrictions are placed on commerical use? Can I sell my work? What is the cost? For higher priced programs, I would consider older less expensive releases.I haven't tested it but a posting related to a bug in TSM when creating track sections. Have you had success creating a track section? Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-06-02, 02:30 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Programs" TSM doesn't allow you to sell your work unless you bought the $400 version. You can also download a demo of paint shop pro so you can try it before you buy it.Brian Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-06-02, 03:28 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Programs" Basically two types of programs are needed in order to create shapes (locomotives, trees, etc.). One is a 3d modeling software. They are priced (all prices are US dollars) from $40 to ~$3,500. Clearly, that is quite a range. Equally clearly, they vary in capabilities. The second type of program is a graphics program. Again, those range in price from free (Paint which is installed automatically on Windows OS computers) to $800. Again, they vary in capabilities. From my experience, other than those two types of software, that will about do it..

Feb-07-02, 03:10 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Programs" It is due to the fact that the commercial version of TSM will be so pricy that I'm considering other 3d drafting program. So far it appears incomplete as it looks as if most textures must be imported. It may be good for learning, ease of use but if I decide to sell anything I do there, I'll need a pricer program(s). If TSM Pro is an end all do all the price isn't too bad.I plan to download the freeware verson of 3d Canvas to see what it does before considering 3d Canvas Pro which is MSTS friendly.I'd like to hear from others on their successes and failures with different programs. I wouldn't want a super expensive that has features I don't need. Nor would I want a program that isn't up to the task. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-07-02, 05:58 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Programs" for graphic programs, i highly reccomend both paint shop pro, and phototshop. i own and use both. paint shop is very easy to use but not as powerful as its big brother photoshop which is harder to use, but much more powerful. im a graphic design student so i personally prefer photoshop because its what we all use. if your planning to do just simple repaints then paint shop pro is really all you will need. paint shop pro usually goes for about 60-100 bucks, and photoshop goes for as low as 350 to around 600 bucks. ive seen places on the net selling photoshop as low as 100 bucks, but i wouldnt reccomend those places since most people who can sell it that cheap are usually large scale piraters who sell illegal "look alike" copies at super discounted prices.
