Feb-04-02, 11:32 PM (EST) "For the Amtrak fans: Phase 2 Superliners" Well, I've started the Superliners as they were delivered. As soon as these are uploaded we'll be able to simulate any era in the Superliner's lives. I'm willing to bed the F40PH's are gonna get a Phase 2 re-skin as well. You know what we need though? A brand new SDP40F. I have no 3D program but it's something to think about. Anyway, here's the first screenshot I was able to sneak from the secret lab.
Note: I'm working from a small picture of an HO scale model with this paint scheme. If anyone has a large photo of a model OR the real thing, please post it or email me. Blake Harris

"RE: For the Amtrak fans: Phase 2 Superliners" LAST EDITED ON Feb-05-02 AT 01:25 PM (EST)Blake,Check out http://lib2.clark.cc.oh.us/amtrak/Amtrak.html - this site has just about any Amtrak pic you could ever want.Looking good so far! Can't wait to get 'em! (And yes, within a week or two there will definitely be an Amtrak Phase II F40PH!)(BTW - i agree we need an SDP40F, but to be honest, by the time the Superliners came into Amtrak service, the SDP40F were being replaced with the F40.)------ BUZZ ------

Feb-05-02, 02:16 PM (EST) 4. "RE: For the Amtrak fans: Phase 2 Superliners" Excellent work, Blake! It too bad the default Superliner is so difficult to work with and they don't have couplers. Perhaps we'll get a new model some day.Ken Martello Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-05-02, 03:36 PM (EST) 8. "RE: For the Amtrak fans: Phase 2 Superliners" Im doing an activities for the NEC route based in the year 1978 (primarily cause I'm using Amtrak, Conrail and Penncentral rolling stock and that year is a good compromise). My Question is when did the first superliners appear?....I'm hoping before 1978Longhairedwizard Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-05-02, 04:07 PM (EST) 9. "RE: For the Amtrak fans: Phase 2 Superliners" Superliners were delivered in '79. For some reason November of '79 pops into my head.Blake Harris

Feb-05-02, 04:50 PM (EST) 10. "RE: For the Amtrak fans: Phase 2 Superliners" Sounds about right. If i am not mistaken, the Empire Builder was the first to be replaced with a Superliner traiset.
As for the NEC, i do not believe Superliners showed up there at all until sometime in the 1990s, after the Superliner II's were delivered.------ BUZZ ------

Feb-05-02, 07:27 PM (EST) 12. "RE: For the Amtrak fans: Phase 2 Superliners" Blake,In case you were wondering, the car numbers are black and located between the end of the car and the upper windows above the striping on the Phase II. When Amtrak repainted the cars into Phase III, they covered up the original numbers instead of removing them! Hence, if you look at the Phase IV Coach Baggage i painted, you'll see an off-colored rectangle between the last window on the upper level and the end of the car. In real life, remove those and Voila! - there are the car numbers dating back to the Phase II scheme! ------ BUZZ ------

Feb-05-02, 07:33 PM (EST) 13. "RE: For the Amtrak fans: Phase 2 Superliners" Yes, the car numbers are the main thing I needed to know the location of. It's not hard to go back in and edit them so I decided to plug ahead. I've noticed that little off color box, and *sheepishly* painted over it, thinking it was an error or oversight. I guess I should open my mouth before I stick my foot in it huh? Anyway, I'll get the numbers in their correct spots soon. Thanks for the info!Blake Harris
