Jan-30-02, 01:07 AM (EST) "Rock Island Locomotive" Hi Everybody,I have been working on a new locomotive skin for the Rock Island. It is going to be an SW1500 (Mark Toland's excellent model). I have only a small part of it done, I will post a screen shot in a second. I was wondering, on the real SW1500, is the interior green, like in Mark's model, or it it another color depending on the paint?

Jan-30-02, 01:46 AM (EST) 1. "RE: Rock Island Locomotive" Well I am on the way to paying back all of you had working engineers out there, for your models and skins with my new Rock Island skin. Here is a screen shot of one of the *.tga files, the repaint for the hood of the locomotive:
As you can see there are a couple of problems with the postition of the doors, the brake lever should go between the Rock and Island on the side represented at the top of the image.I am having trouble loading the sking into the game, I loaded the .tga file (with the alpha channel) into tgatool2 and exported it as ace (alpha) but when I ran the game, the new skin didn't appear?Happy Rails

Jan-30-02, 09:30 AM (EST) 2. "RE: Rock Island Locomotive" LAST EDITED ON Jan-30-02 AT 10:29 AM (EST)excellent, thanks for doing some switchers
a pic from http://www.rockisl.com/PaintSchemes/Type5/Type5.htm
no idea what the interior color would be, no doubt some sort of pea-green....no need to worry boute it unless you have hard confermation of something other than the default, and that it would really stand out unless you fixed it. looks like the three little louvers by tha cab are also a little bit different then from the proto pic.also once I get the text location finalized on the long hood, I like to show very faint lines on the letters where the doors are to show that the letter is on some sort of gap in the metal, and not just a rigid decal-can't get the file to appear in the game-
hmmmmm
do all 3 files ( .eng, .s, .sd ) have the same name? --I've noticed thats usually the source of most problems when unzipping files and a skin wont show upwhen I do skinning, I use the TGATool2 for the initial.ace to .tga conversion, then I edit the .tga in the working directory, use MAKEACE with .bat triggers to create .ace files, cut the .ace files out from the working directory, and then paste them into the "real" folder in the trainset, and repeat as necessary.. goes by pretty quicklythis your first skin?
good job so far
Matt

Jan-30-02, 07:56 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Rock Island Locomotive" LAST EDITED ON Jan-30-02 AT 07:58 PM (EST)Hi,That is the locomotive that I was creating for the game, I didn't post that picture, because I didn't know if it was copywritten or not.You said you need to creat a *.bat file for makeace to work. When it comes to computer programming I don't know up from down and red from green. Could you point out a link to a thread in the message area about this? All of the files have the same name as the original...I did really notice the louvers by the cab, and I think I will have to talk Mark into creating the model with handrails mounted on the sides of the hood, rather than on the running boards. Or am I completely wrong and this is an SW1000 and not an SW1500?This is my first reskin - lets all hope that it works!

Jan-30-02, 08:51 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Rock Island Locomotive" Here is a picture of what I have done so far:
I appologize, but I don't know who to give credit to for making the excellent looking and easy to reskin SP locomotive.I have a problem, in the image in post #1 I have painted the two long horizontal bars cream, but in the game the running boards show up as red, shouldn't they be that cream color?

Jan-31-02, 01:30 AM (EST) 5. "RE: Rock Island Locomotive" it looks great. would it be a major chore for someone to redo the handrails on the SW1500 for the RI. the RI's handrails didn't go all the way down to the cab. they were only right next to the cab and right next to the steps on the front. im sure some other RR's had these too. It's only a minor difference, but it would be great if someone could redo this. I don't have a clue how or I would try. my next project may be an sw1500 in the blue rock scheme.

I don't know if the SW1500 has layers or not. If it does maybe the cream color is on another layer that is not on the top. Go to the layers pull down menu, find the one with the frame stripe, then click next to it and a check will appear next to it, then go to arrange (under layers pull doen also) and click bring to top or something similar. i had this problem once on the uboat. rather than learn how to deal with the layers, i just merge all layers together as one. maybe that will help!

Jan-31-02, 07:11 PM (EST) 9. "RE: Rock Island Locomotive" LAST EDITED ON Jan-31-02 AT 07:12 PM (EST)LAST EDITED ON Jan-31-02 AT 07:11 PM (EST) Great job on the 1500 guys! BTW there are still two in Rock Island paint. One sits outside NRE in Silvis(fitting no doubt)It and a sister were shipped to Silvis about 6 to 7 years ago on flat cars minus trucks. They have been placed on their trucks and one was moved inside the shop. Both units have no prime mover and no electrical and are in serious need of body work. The interior paint of the cab is a light green and the scheme on the locos is Maroon and Yellow.I asked how much for one as is and was given a price tag that would choke a mule! The rumor was(is?) they were going to make them unavailable price wise and then rebuild both as NRE shop switchers in Rock Island paint. As stated before one went in to the shop at the end of July I believe of last year.If it comes out in a Rock scheme youll be the first to know(cause youll hear me scream like a little girl whereever you are lol)If you are in the area dont go on NRE property. You can see the one 1500 from the road behind Silvis Public Works garage on the Main drag. Jan-31-02, 10:51 PM (EST) 10. "RE: Rock Island Locomotive" LAST EDITED ON Jan-31-02 AT 11:00 PM (EST)I will be waiting to hear the screams, LOL. Lets hope they do come out of the shop in Rock Island Paint, that would be awesome. The green interior paint, is this color similar to the green that is used in Mark's cabview in the original release of the model? I am using Corel PhotoPain 7, I got the skin to work by doing the following:I created a *.txt file and renamed the file to 'Convert SW1500A.bat' (the name isn't important but the .bat is)I right clicked on the file and selected 'Edit' from the drop down list.I typed the following into the file and then saved the file:makeace SW1500A.tga SW1500A.aceI double clicked the file after renaming it and it work!Next on the paint shop floor:

Feb-05-02, 09:16 PM (EST) 11. "RE: Rock Island Locomotive" Hi Everybody!I am aiming to make this model as real as possible so I have a few questions:
Could anybody tell me what the the text circled in blue might say? I would think that the black plate on the front of the walkway says something about the builder and date. Is that all that this plate says? Thanks,
