Jan-23-02, 08:29 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Did anyone have equipment for the Trona Railway in CA?" Trona Railroad runs from Mojave, California and heads across the desert to the Searles Valley. If you have the Tehachapi route, that's that spur just north of the yard that diverts east and across the highway (SR14). If your looking at a map, find Death Valley and look to the west over the Panamint Range. I think they are still running silver six axle locomotives? Long ago they had some Baldwins.A couple of things I remember about the Trona, SP running out of fuel on a holiday in the middle of the desert (typical). And the famous SP runaway on Cajon Pass that blew up the underground gasoline line, the loads came off the Trona. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-24-02, 04:18 PM (EST) 8. "RE: Did anyone have equipment for the Trona Railway in CA?" Actually guys the Trona Railway does NOT run from Trona to Mojave. It's the UP (ex SP) that runs from Mojave to the end of the branch 3 miles past Searles. That is the UP Lone Pine Subdivision. The Trona Railway is the 30 miles between Trona and Searles where it connects with the UP branch.TAP

Jan-25-02, 00:31 AM (EST) 9. "RE: Did anyone have equipment for the Trona Railway in CA?" Sorry TAP that I forget about the big yellow monster gobbling up all the western roads. (not a real big UP fan!)And your right, it is SP to over yonder. If anyone builds the route, they had an interesting shoefly around a collapsed tunnel along the line.
