Jan-16-02, 05:45 PM (EST) "Polished rail !" Are you tired of that gray, flat lookin rail in MSTS?Well I have a solution my Train-sim buddies!I was messin around with the ACleantrack2.ace,and re-worked the "Rail" texture with some "Effects" in PSP7(Metallic gradient,3d effects, etc),and came up with a more "Prototypical" looking rail.Check it out!I will be up-loading the file tonight.Tell me what ya think?

Jan-16-02, 11:58 PM (EST) 9. "RE: Polished rail !" might i suggest something?ive changed my rail textures too, and i really like yours, but honestly, nothing that wide looks like a rail...
i narrowed the shiny silver part and placed some rusty parts there, so it looks like the rail is alot smaller and not as wide on top. if you could do this, youd have the best rail texture around, nice job!sorry i dont have a good pic of them, but look in the bottom portion of this one.

Jan-17-02, 06:16 AM (EST) 11. "RE: Polished rail !" Justin, thanks for the tip, although i already up-loaded the file to the server.I'll update the the rail, then up-load it again. One thing i noticed about the "new" rail is when i choose "snow",or winter as the season, the rail looks different(back to the gray, flat msts look)?Any Ideas? Jan-17-02, 06:30 AM (EST) 12. "RE: Polished rail !" Hey don, I dont know exactly why there should be a different texture for the rail for winter of autumn, etc, since you don't see snow on the rail or anything like that. But you may have to copy the files and insert them in the various files for the different seasons. Have had to do this with more than one add-on route!!!Bill Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-18-02, 01:46 AM (EST) 14. "RE: Polished rail !" hey SD80, ide have to agree with NorfolkSouthern that the rail heads do look a little too wide, if you look closely at the real thing, you will notice the inside half of the rail head is shiney because thats where the train wheels sit all the time, but the outside half of the rail head is rusty, but they look much better then the dull grey rails as they are. Great idea, great work, keep at it!!Trevor Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-18-02, 08:49 PM (EST) 21. "RE: Polished rail !" ...I like the dark wooden ties, and the dark gray ballast...looks really good!!!I tried to edit the track texture myself, and managed to "raise" the ties off(up from) the ballast,so it looks more 3 dimensional.I'm still workin on that one.Did you save the track texture as a bmp?,or tga? Jan-19-02, 01:30 AM (EST) 23. "RE: Polished rail !" I made a new one. It uses the standard "metallic" gradient in Paint Shop Pro but the shiny part has been narrowed down by coloring the edges of the top of the rail dark brown. The sides of the rail use a brown/rust inverted gradient. The ties use the standard "dark wood" texture that has been darkened. The ballast has also been darkened (perhaps a bit too much).Message Areas - "Polished rail !" – image 9 Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
