Now on to install the Illinois Central Route.

Jan-15-02, 02:31 PM (EST) 15. "RE: IC E8s; Riding on the City of New Orleans, everybody sing" You'll need to record it into a .WAV file (11.025kHz 16-bit stereo) and replace the .wav file in the ESE\passview1\sound folder (or passview2 - I think it may depend on the version). It should come out to about 12 megabytes - big, but not by MSTS standards (c:Ron Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

But I think you should still have the Windows "Sound Recorder". On my system, it's in Programs->Accessories->Entertainment.As far as the hardware goes, there should be a input jack for your sound card.Ron

>file? A microphone would work, but the quality might not be very good.A music CD has a different format (blue book) from PC data files. It may be possible to take a program that can make an MP3 file from a music CD (like the latest MS Media Player) and then use another program to convert from MP3 to WAV. I can't recall any titles off hand, but there are freeware utilities that do that. This would probably give you the best quality. Also, you can go to Radio Shack (or equivalent) and get a cable with male stereo jacks on bith ends. Connect one end to your CD-player's headphone jack and the other to your sound card input. The use the Windows Sound Recorder to make your .WAV. I have had some problems with this technique when I tried something similar going from a TV headphone jack - I got a loud feedback(?) buzz on the recording. Maybe there are some audiophiles in the sound forumn that know a better arrangement. Two things to keep in mind:1. The wav file should be 16-bit stereo 11.025kHz
2. The song is not in the public domain, so this should be for personal use only. )c:Ron

Jan-17-02, 06:23 AM (EST) 23. "RE: IC E8s; Riding on the City of New Orleans, everybody sing" LAST EDITED ON Jan-17-02 AT 06:35 AM (EST)Ron,
as you seem to be an expert in sound questions maybe you can help me.
I changed the WAV of the ESE to "The City of New Orleans" and it works except for the fact that the speed is way too fast so it sounds like Mickey Mouse is the singer instead of Arlo Guthrie.
The WAV is 11.025 Hz, but MONO instead of STEREO, could this be the reason?
When i play it directly, i.e. outside MSTS it is ok.
Thanks,

Do you need a photo of the board on the back of the observation car to put the train name on? Maybe you've already done that and I can't see it from the screen shots! Also, would you like car numbers and names for the train? They are on the set I released, put I can email you them. And you are going to upload these right?David Klemm

Jan-17-02, 10:41 AM (EST) 27. "RE: IC E8s; Riding on the City of New Orleans, everybody sing" YAHOO!!!!!First of all, those cars look great!! And with Arlo Guthrie singing in the obs, what more could we IC-types want?Second, I take it that the fluting on the TA passenger cars are a part of the texture rather than a part of the model. This has all kinds of nice implications. Henry Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
