Jan-06-02, 12:08 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Two new CP reefers..." Hi.. Yep.. it was real..Built in October 1962 by Eastern Car Works, this 40' box car with plug door, without roofwalk was painted in the Mandarin Orange paint scheme of black, white and orange with lettering on sides, ends, and doors variously in black and white. Chosen at random from a 1100 car fleet in 1978 to wear this promotional paint scheme, #35893 lead a 58 car consist into Eastern Canada transporting the years’ Mandarin oranges for the Christmas season. It was featured in a print media campaign to capitalize on successfully moving its largest shipment to other shippers. There was only one car wearing this scheme and the whole fleet was removed from service in 1992.
So, if you want to run this car, run only one, leading a consist of reefers. That'd be prototypical as there really only was one of these.. a real one of a kind car..Here's a bad scan of a pic of the real car befoe it was scrapped.
cheers
Harold

Jan-06-02, 06:02 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Two new CP reefers..." Usually we'd run dedicated "express" reefer trains- could be 20-50 cars plus mail or express freight.. Your consist looks pretty decent. I should run up some of our silk cars that we used to run raw silk from the west coast.. That'd look good behind a Selkirk..cheers
