Jan-02-02, 01:43 PM (EST) "Canadien Pacific and Canadian Pacific" Does anyone know which series of diesel have the two spellings? Most interested in the tuscan and grey paint schemes.
Is it true "Canadien" had to be 10% larger while in Quebec? lol

Jan-02-02, 02:46 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Canadien Pacific and Canadian Pacific" We never used "Canadien Pacific" on any locos in script that I know of. .
The currently approved wordmarks are:"Canadian Pacific Railway"
"Chemin de Fer Candadien Pacific" and while I have seen and have reference shots of lots of vintage CP diesels, I cannot recall one with the "Canadien" spelling. I'm back at work Monday, I'll check with Archives and our Corporate Historian..cheers

Jan-02-02, 05:23 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Canadien Pacific and Canadian Pacific" Just a short note on "Chemin de Fer" which literally means "road of iron". The English language is a bit odd in NOT calling railroads "iron roads" or something similar since almost all other European languages do just that. Chemin de fer in French, Eisenbahn in German, ferrocaril in Spanish, järnväg in Swedish, jernbane in Danish and Norwegian, ferrovia in Italian and so on. English and Dutch (spoorweg=railroad) are among the few exceptions. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-02-02, 10:36 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Canadien Pacific and Canadian Pacific" Some more inputHere in Winnipeg beside Union Station there is a building called Johnston Terminal ( it also used to be another train station up 'till the late 60's ) But any ways there is marble and stone Railway logos on the floor all through-out this now tourist shopping area. This spelling is used on one Canadien National slab of stone.Oddly enough 25 feet away there is another one but spelled Canadian National. My theory was it was late on a Friday afternoon when this worker created this stone slab and instead of working 10 more hours to correct the mispelled Canadien , He said " Screw them if they can't take a joke !! " and left it.Just a thoughtCanadian vs. CanadienI think Canadians right myselfTim Kent

Jan-03-02, 01:25 AM (EST) 6. "RE: Canadien Pacific and Canadian Pacific" It was CN that used english spelling on one side and french spelling on the opposite side of some their rolling stock that didn't carry the noodle logo. That was back when it was a crown corporation.Stew Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
